Yes, comic book artists, and even editors, are trying do/demand, a quick drawing art. I always wanted to paint comics, with watercolor, realism style. Never got a chance.
The only artist, I ever saw doing it, is Alex Ross. But I imagine he's paid for it much more, for being a great name and all... :C

You're right of course. The only way I was able to justify the time spent on these were to call it a holiday! Before I started them, I had this vague plan of collecting the whole strand of stories and publishing them, but after this lot realised that it's take a year to do...Β
