# About me
Hello there, and welcome to my deviantArt page. My name is Aiden. My gallery mainly consists of things I've created using Lego Bionicle and Hero Factory, known as MOCs. You'll also find satellite projects like my webcomic Hero Faffory, stopmotion animations, and the occasional biro drawing too.
I enjoy writing blog entries, for which you can find a directory further down this page.
What is a MOC?
MOC stands for My Own Creation; it is a term used to describe models made using Lego pieces but designed by the owner, so it is not an official Lego set.
Can you make instructions for your MOCs please?
I don't do instructions, sorry. This is partly because instructions take a lot of time and effort, and partly because I have learned that work on the Internet is all too easily stolen.
Do you have a YouTube account?
Yes.

Hey Aiden, you know the hype about Bionicle 2015? It got to its maximum now, someone found this on official Lego pages.

I think the maximum "ALL ABOARD THE HYPE TRAIN" will be when we actually know in detail what the sets look like

Hey there Rahiden. I was wondering if i could tempt you with looking at my MOC pictures that i have uploaded. You don't have to, but if you do, it would be amazing if you also gave a short review on them.

Plain background! Natural lighting! Increase exposure time if you want the colours to be more vivid (or use the Curves feature on GIMP, that works too)! Colour contrast between the subject and the background! Make sure the important stuff (a.k.a the head, if it has one) is in focus! No distracting objects poking into the frame! A generally neutral 'main' picture where you can see a good overview of the whole thing! Maybe a few subsidiary detailed shots if you feel like it! Empty space between the subject and the edges of the frame - some, but not too much! Make sure the picture's big enough! Use a tripod if you can! Avoid dark shadows (unless they're for dramatic effect)!
Of course, this is just for photographing Still Life, but I hope that helps

sorry to butt in here, but what about lighting? i have the biggest issue with the lights in my house being SO YELLOW and then i have to spend all this time editing my pictures back to natural coloring (or as close as i can get it). my house faces north, so there really aren't any windows where i can get good natural light without it being wash-out harsh or not bright enough... so how do you handle your lights?

Rahiden In reply to roxaswantsacupcake [2014-08-08 23:24:44 +0000 UTC]
Hm... natural light has always seemed to work best for me, and my window faces North too. Try increasing your exposure time (generally under the camera's Manual setting), since that generally brings out the colours a lot more on photos that aren't bright enough. My bedroom lights used to be really yellow too, producing terrible photos like these , which was why I used natural light with a plain white cloth as a background for all of my serious pictures. Thankfully now my room has really bright white ceiling lights that basically replicate natural light, so I can use them at any time of day! For reference, I used that lighting for the Chameleon and Operation Googly pictures.

i take my pictures on a big sheet of white cardstock with my desk lamp. i bought these lightbulbs that are SUPPOSED to be less yellow (the bulbs are like a light blue) but the difference isn't super noticeable. i spend so much time editing, i dread updating my etsy. i started using the tungsten white balance setting, and that seems to help, but i'll increase the exposure too. that'll probably cancel out the dramatic shadows i tend to get.
ah i wish i could get my overhead lights to work. ;-; my ceiling fan died like 2 years ago. now all it does is rotate. i haven't gotten a new one yet, but i'll remember that!
thank you for the tips!

Rahiden In reply to roxaswantsacupcake [2014-08-09 00:27:46 +0000 UTC]
Ah, okay. These days I do very little actual editing to the colours of my shots - I used to rely on the Curves feature in GIMP until I realised that the exposure time basically did the same thing, but actually with these lights I can put the camera on Full Auto and the pictures come out brilliantly. On some occasions I do something completely different - with my Absol Niyyan and Mortiven Moth MOCs I took the photos in pitch darkness with about 2 seconds' exposure, and then I used the torch on my phone and flailed it around the MOC while the photo was being taken. With the former it got me surprisingly even white lighting (after a few attempts), while with the latter I could generate a shadow below the MOC while still having it well illuminated. I'm glad I could help, and best of luck!

Hi Aiden, it's me again. That annoying requester.
Do you know about Bionicle being most likely revived?!

Yes, I knew about it from another source, but frankly as long as I have a steady supply of new, compatible pieces then I'm happy with whatever Lego does

And also, what advice would you give to a new MOCer, I want to make a bionicle vs HF series on youtube but i dont think my mocs are effective as other famous Youtubers like T1 and ToaScrack44, you can check my 1 post i have of a elite rahkshi and i would be happy to see your tought on how i can improve!

What are your thoughts about HF, i was devastated when lego replaced it Bionicle, i just don't see the detail and the child in me when i use Hf. Which is why i usually take part in bionicle vs Hf things, but what about you?
👍: 0 ⏩: 1
Rahiden In reply to ToaNinjis [2014-07-01 21:01:18 +0000 UTC]
I think Hero Factory is okay. Yes, I was saddened by Bionicle's departure, but I didn't dwell on it - HF gives me new pieces to play with, so I'm happy. I was never that into the storyline anyway
I'm afraid I can't really comment on your Rahkshi... the picture is so small that I can't make out anything. Upon looking at Viden, though, I'd suggest turning your mind to shaping - get a better idea of what shape you want your MOC to have, and avoid having pins or axles sticking out unnecesarily.
And finally, I believe my selfMOC Toa Niyyan would suffice
