Yep i got it, thanks!, let me find some time to check it and i'll send you the papercraft, it may take long, cause there's a local comic convention next month (and that always means work with the Iron-Man suit to me).

cool!so far with my arc i got an acrylic ring that i sandblasted to give it a fog look then drew out a circuit for the leds, then adding some sheet metal parts and some copper wire to finish it off. ill post a pic for ya when im done. I got pepakura to work i can view the parts of the suit you unlocked. What scale are the parts at? im 5' 11" im hoping your around the same size so i dont have to tweak them as much. thanks for the help

ScannerJOE In reply to mr08kitt [2010-08-02 06:26:11 +0000 UTC]
I'm 5'7", but even if we were the same height i would recommend you to scale the pieces because the complexion might vary from body to body. And some times you'll have to get back to the original model to change the width/height/depth relation.

hey joe im currently working on a replica of the arc reactor and was wanting to start work on a suit. im new at the pepakura and saw that you had an unlocked file, when i tried to install blender it told me i needed to download python programming language??? any clue wat that is or is it something that doesn't need to be downloaded and is like an advertisement.
greatly appreciate the help if u can!!

ScannerJOE In reply to mr08kitt [2010-07-30 20:00:31 +0000 UTC]
Some blender features are only available with python installed, i don't remember if exporting to obj is one of those, that's the only feature you need to share the model with pepakura.
My arc reactor is not included in the files but it's too easy to do, because it's only a screen over a lamp (a circle with 10 sitcks around painted in black). I can upload a picture of it, maybe tomorrow.

your papercraft iron man is awesome, do you use pepakura designer?
👍: 0 ⏩: 1
ScannerJOE In reply to chasz-manequin [2010-07-03 13:27:20 +0000 UTC]
Yep, that's the one. I like to publish in pdo format because is easier for the people, they can check which parts to join and locate the parts in the 3D model.

i hope you dont mind but i want to know hwo to use the pepakura software.
i dont know how to actually make something on it, so do i have to pay for a better version? or do i have to make the model on a diferent software then put it on the pepakura software to turn it into a paper design?

ScannerJOE In reply to chasz-manequin [2010-07-03 16:18:54 +0000 UTC]
Well you can use the designer's free version and print to a PDFCreator printer, but you'll have to do your unfold in one session. Try it like this before buying the license.
Pepakura is used just for unfold, you have to build your model using any 3D modeler software and export it using OBJ format, so pepakura can read it. Try with Blender, that's my choice.

do you think google sketchup would work? that's the only 3D modeller I have ever used and I don't want to learn a whole new way of making models....but thanks I might give blender a try.

I don't know if there is a sketchup to OBJ exporter, i tryed it a long time ago . Blender is not as friendly as sketchup but it has a ton of really good options.

GREAT WORK! Love the suit!
Could u please reply or Note me on your "mache technique" ?
👍: 0 ⏩: 1
ScannerJOE In reply to Airlit [2010-06-18 19:42:22 +0000 UTC]
Well this is not mache, there are a few layers of mache in the helmet's face, but it's only a finishing. Almost all of the suit is papercraft only the gloves and the abdomen are not.

Airlit In reply to ScannerJOE [2010-06-19 00:52:03 +0000 UTC]
yeah gotcha. Thats pretty awesome, how are you able to apply such nice paint on only papercraft though? And so the abdomen and gloves have a lot of mache on them too? What sort of mache do you use, how do you apply it? Paper Mache can be a LOT of fun I wonder how many layers you would need to get it nice and tough

ScannerJOE In reply to Airlit [2010-06-19 03:46:48 +0000 UTC]
I already described my recipe for the suit here but i'll repeat it:
To make it water resistant i used several layers, from outside in: Spray paint, Water diluted white glue (for gloss effect), opaline (pattern), cardboard, paper (pattern with no flaps), cardboard and duct tape. It is slim (2-3mm), light, and strong.
You can see my tips for helmet here
For the face finishing that i mentioned, i only used one layer of mache outside and two/three inside to reinforce the papercraft pattern.
The gloves are made of fabric covered with foamy, the foamy is treated with water diluted white glue. And the abdomen is made of vynil fabric.

thanks i got mine from dungbeetle's but yours looks more accurate. im saving your file on my favorite list. i might construct another one from yours.

ScannerJOE In reply to JamesMarsano [2010-06-16 05:47:29 +0000 UTC]
Well i read in a dungbeetle's post that there's very little difference between its model and the one i used as a reference. So I wouldn't expect a big difference in shape, only in functionallity.

JamesMarsano In reply to ScannerJOE [2010-06-17 06:22:23 +0000 UTC]
mm..ok. but still for some reason i liked yours better. it seems to me that yours is more accurate than his. did you change the forehead?
👍: 0 ⏩: 1
ScannerJOE In reply to JamesMarsano [2010-06-17 19:30:27 +0000 UTC]
Well my model is a simplification of this model , found at [link] , using Blender retopo technique. This technique is similar to "draw" polygons over the surface, so i didn't "change" anything. This was one of my very first works with Blender and pepakura back in 2008. I recently bought the pepakura designer license and that's why i'm releasing the pdo until now.

Hello, I really love the iron man mask you created!
Do you have a guide on how to make it? I'd love to give it a go!
Failing that do you have one for sale?
Thanks
Matt

I'm working on full documentation with your comments in this forum [link]
I don't sell helmets, because i think that would be illegal.
Also, i don't want to make money with this, i only want to promote IRONMAN, Cosplay and Papercraft with this model.
