I actually primarily blame my girlfriend as she has a much better color sense than me. Also I think I was just influenced by a lot of 50's and 60's illustrators like Bob Peak and Robert McGinnis that use color in really bold and daring and if you look at something long enough, you're bound to absorb it. It never hurts to paint from life either, of course!
