Haha, just caught your art via the DD, and was pleased to see that the rest of your gallery is amazing, too. You're quite a competent sculptor, and your 2D art is great. And, I'll admit it, your text is so much fun to read.

I love the designs in your characters. They look positively real, like they'd be up an walking about in real life, if they weren't made of plastic.

Keep it up!

Jeez, you rule! Just so you know. Some of those sculptures remind me of a warped "Wind in the Willows"... such an amazing notion.

- well, that and the likes of Beatrix Potter were always my starting point for this sorta thing, just imagining such critters if they went through a meshing-together of modern-day-meets-medieval kind of mindset. Glad you like him, ta for that

i love your pieces. how long have you been sculpting? and do you paint your own works?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

snuurg In reply to zarniwoop360 [2009-05-02 19:06:30 +0000 UTC]

hmm, guess I started doing it maybe fifteen years or so ago, a bit longer perhaps - and yup, generally speaking, I paint most of my own daft doings...

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

zarniwoop360 In reply to snuurg [2009-05-02 21:47:49 +0000 UTC]

wonderful thank you. what kind of clay and paint do you use?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

snuurg In reply to zarniwoop360 [2009-05-03 07:19:32 +0000 UTC]

- no probs. As for the sculpting, I generally use a two-part epoxy putty called 'milliput', it cures without the baking required by stuff like sculpey and fimo so it's one less bit of bother; though saying that, I've been getting into 'greenstuff' lately as I've started doing miniatures - otherwise known as 'kneadatite' to give it the proper name. That's also a two-part air-curing putty, a bit more expensive though as it's more of a specialised medium, whereas milliput was originally created as a plumber's fix-it putty, and is hence a lot less costly-per-packet. Though I dunno what the availability is likely to be like over on your side of the pond...

Paints-wise, pretty much whatever I can get my hands on - any given sculpt will usually have two or three different types of paint on it according more or less to what leftovers I've got lying around the place: typically my main paint-medium is/are enamels (generally Humbrol by trade-name), though I'll also tinker with various acrylics; often I'll apply a base-colour with spray-paint, either straight out of a can from the car body-shop shop, or by way of our spray gun at work - the latter occasionally enabling me to do a little shading work if there are large areas of the base-colour that'll remain showing on the finished piece.

Hope that's some use to you

Have you seen Hellboy 2 yet? Look for the plant-like monster thing that plucks a toothfairy out of the air and eats it, the monster is modeled after the Mountains of Madness creatures.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

snuurg In reply to CoolCat0001 [2009-04-01 08:38:05 +0000 UTC]

- liked bits of it but was kinda disappointed, dunno - and some of it just daft like the 7-times-70 indestructible whatnots thing... wouldn't you just need one? But anyway - plant-monster - didya mean the big building-sized thing that he shoots in the head, or summat else?

...just saw the date when you posted this, you're gonna go, huh? what's he talking about? hmm, must keep up...

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

CoolCat0001 In reply to snuurg [2009-04-01 14:48:42 +0000 UTC]

yeah, I was ...huh?, but I quickly knew what you were talking about. Hellboy had a simple plot, but I was entertained. I'm looking forward to a sequel. I heard Guillermo Del Toromight be doing The Hobbit and a segment for Heavy Metal 3.

It's been a while so I think I can ask if you, Have you seen Watchmen? What did you think? I'll say I thought it was to long.

Nice hearing from, good luck with exploits, and I look forward to see some new stuff.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

snuurg In reply to CoolCat0001 [2009-04-01 15:17:28 +0000 UTC]

- yeah, the hobbit's meant to be going ahead, with much of the LOTR cast (where appropriate) coming back for more... or, coming back for less, given that they're doing the bit before all the rest - only real question being over who's gonna be Bilbo, since even though they could de-age Ian Holm he just might not be up to it - we'll see, anyway.

Liked Watchmen - yep, a bit on the lengthy side maybe, but only real 'complaint' was the slightly not-very-well-done blue-bloke where the anatomy really went screwy more than a few times, not entirely sure why they didn't just blue-up Crudup and jazz it up from there, though I suppose he maybe didn't want his winky watched in Watchmen...

CoolCat0001 In reply to snuurg [2009-04-01 16:06:08 +0000 UTC]

Jake gelenthal? did I spell that right? He's supposed to portray Bilbo. If your not sure who that is he was the main actor in Wanted.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

snuurg In reply to CoolCat0001 [2009-04-01 17:43:08 +0000 UTC]

Wanted? I thought that was James McAvoy? or is it a different wanted? Or Jake Gyllenhall? Heh, I dunno... guess either of 'em might pass for the part though

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

CoolCat0001 In reply to snuurg [2009-04-01 18:41:24 +0000 UTC]

actually I haven't seen Wanted yet. I have heard good and bad about it, I thought Jake was in it. I have heard Jake Gyllenhallhas been offered the Bilbo part though.

Have you ever sculpted anything for Lord of the Rings or the like?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

snuurg In reply to CoolCat0001 [2009-04-03 08:11:11 +0000 UTC]

- sort of nearly-almost, I did get asked to do some stuff for a new upcoming range, but it required I move to a different country to do it, which seemed a bit daft just for the sake of a single run of figures with no guaranteed follow-up work - and indeed no actual guarantee of getting paid for what I did do in the first place :s

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

CoolCat0001 In reply to snuurg [2009-04-03 21:59:18 +0000 UTC]

yeah, I'd say that was a good idea. You don't want to get stuck working in a railcar with a bunch of minors. Where were they wanting to relocate?

- nope, entirely self-taught - well, other than looking in the occasional sculpture-book - my college at the time didn't have any sort of sculpture-training going on so I just had to figure it out for myself
