Excellent tikis - love the designs and personalities! I'm dying to try my hand (and chisel) at some carving, but college life results in moving to a new place every year and the less bulk I have to move the better. For now, I'm more of an admirer of good tiki carving. Thank goodness for DeviantWatch - I look forward to seeing what other carvings you share!

You're welcome, and I'm honored by your kind words and for the watch! You gave me one of those "duh" sort of moments on my part - why I haven't gone out and purchased some stout dowels or something is beyond me, but that would be a great way to start learning. I already have a bunch of little wood working tools that I use for clay, so that's actually something I can tinker with in the near future!

Thanks for checking out my stuff. I started carving with an Xacto knife and still use Xacto to carve the small stuff. Xacto knives and blades are cheap and easy to keep shape (when its dull just get another blade - blades are really cheap). If you want to progress and do larger stuff, invest in a quality starter chisel set. Cheap chisels are just Crap - don't waste your money. Cheap chisels just make you frustrated. Also learn to sharpen knives and chisels. A sharp chisel is safer than a dull one, believe it or not. If you have a local wood shop go talk to the guys in there. They are usually more than willing to share advise (be careful, sometimes they are older gents that will trap you into talking for hours).

Just start carving and be careful! Skill and knowledge will come with time.
