Thanks, man! I just realized exactly how inactive I'm been; you're Happy Birthday from last year is like 4 comments below this one. I've got some stuff to upload and some stories to tell about this last year... just need to find the time and mental fortitude to do so. Hope all is well on your side of the world.

Thanks. I'm constantly striving to be better. Being on dA helps. When I think I've hit a wall I'll see some amazing thing someone else has done that sparks an idea and I run with it. I didn't even knew what modular origami was until I started on dA and I knew nothing of photography. I've come a long way in these 6 years. With encouragement like yours, improvement is even more worthwhile.

Awwww thanks People who stay on dA longer tend to be awesome. By the way, what's the model in your icon? It looks interesting.

It's a Concave Dodecahedron. Trying to remember what book it's in... Ah! Here it is. It's in Tomoko Fuse's Unit Origami. The fold is called Double Pocket Equilateral Triangles on page 126. This model is with 30 units. I like it for how sturdy the model is but as with most models, the sturdier it is the harder it is to assemble. The last piece is near impossible to insert but when finished it's flawless in regards to seeing how it's assembled.
Just had a thought of changing my avatar (icon) to the new glow in the dark model. The problem is I've used the blue dodecahedron since I started 6 years ago. It'd feel like getting a face transplant; no one would know who I was.

I like Tomoko Fuse's work, but I've only ever attempted her Cherry Blossom Kusudama. I'll look into that book I do mostly Meenakshi Mukerji's models and I've created a variation to one, her Dimpled Model with Curves (mine is Dimpled Model with Triangles and Holes).

Thanks! I think I'm going to have to "borrow" kickassedness at some point in time. If it isn't a word, it should be. I do agree with the sentiment as long as it's not my ass getting kicked, which life tends to do sometimes.
And this is interesting. I just noticed people's names have basic information next to it now; Age, gender, location, and type of artist. It's the info on one's profile page but that's a pretty cool little time saving feature. I'll to lurk some forums and see who talks with who.

lol, At first I was curious as to how you knew where I was from being paranoid about privacy and this being the internet and all. Then I realized I have it written in my profile... I kind of miss an old feature of dA I think was called "Local deviants" or something. Maybe it's still here but I've not seen it for a while. If you had your location set, you could find deviants close by, which is how I met a couple other people in Kentucky as well. Ideal for setting up a devmeet. Hopefully you didn't get blown away with all the tornado activity last Friday.
And I must say I'm impressed to see you've been hanging around here since 2003. And I'm assuming the "Premium Member till Hell freezes over" and the little carrot next to your name means you are a staff / admin / moderator of sorts. I never learned what they all meant. If this is true, thanks for helping maintain such a great community.
And after browsing your gallery, you've got some great stuff there. Even the non-colored line art is full of life. It reminds me of some cel-shaded goodness and the Powerpuff Girls / Dexter's Lab animations. That may be because you had one involving Dexter... I've got respect for digital / vector artists as I learned basic drafting and art with a pencil and T-square back in middle school but never made the digital transition.

Goodness, you just trying to make me feel old? Then again you've been here three so I guess we're just a couple of old-timers in internet years...
And the holidays have gone well. The nice thing about have family that is close is you have lots of fond memories and more to look forward to. The bad thing is sometimes those memories can be used against you. Nostalgic as I am, the bad outweighs the good many times. But overall the bad memories... not bad per se but memories of loss, are slowly healing up so I'm looking forward to 2011.
And how about yours? Please tell me Christmas consumerism insanity hasn't reached your side of the border... The older I get the more absurd everything seems to be. I think people are miserable in general since it's cold and dreary and compensate by holding all their festivals at once. Just a theory.

xD It's hard to imagine it's been so long on dA. But then again, I've been super-inactive so.. *shrug*
Good to hear the holidays have been going well. Indeed my friend, memories can always stir up good and the bad~
I'm looking towards 2011 as well. -Perhaps- I shall be semi-productive. I really need to work out a schedule at some point.
Aha. Well my family has never celebrated any holidays whatsoever, so while I'm safe from the madness, it also means that it's a quiet year all round. But I did have to help out at the parents' restaurant on x-mas eve and new year's eve. x-mas eve was fine, but new year's eve was -brutal.- Everyone wanted their orders/meals at 5-7PM, there were about 8-10 orders lined up, and I kept having to tell people that it's gonna take over an hour to get to making their meal, as we only have one chef. We lost probably about 5 potential customers yesterday, but I'm not really concerned. One guy was pretty grumpy: "More than an hour? Bye. >:I". I was standing for a long time at the counter. Didn't get to sit down till about..6:30 I think. I don't know how my parents do it. They're standing like all day when they work. The lactic acid buildup just makes me want to hop on a bed and not stand until I wake up about 6 hours later.
As for your theory, I'd agree with it. Seems logical to me.

1sand0s In reply to Tired-Al [2010-08-12 22:54:09 +0000 UTC]
I'm still amazed that everything is even as balanced as it is. I thought a max of 120 sniper rounds, versus like 1200 SMG rounds, wouldn't be enough. But with roughly 10x the damage and a slower reload Mordecai can get by most encounters like that. It is handy to have a revolver and pistol ammo regen as back up though... Playing Lilith I had a Double Anarchy of some sort with a massive rate of fire and her SMG class mod. It ended up being a flak cannon and was awesome against the Horde waves of Moxxi's Underdome. Terrible accuracy but when the enemies are running toward you it doesn't matter because it's literately a wall of lead. And fire maybe... Of course the ammo count was at 0 quite often.

Tired-Al In reply to 1sand0s [2010-08-12 23:52:26 +0000 UTC]
O: Yeah!~ I always run out of ammo on SMG w/ Lilith too, until I found a good SMG regen class mod.
So far on Roland, I've been using Sledge's Shotgun, A helix 4x poison rocket with 420 dmg (x3), krom's sidearm, and a savage equalizer (ammo regen revolver). It's not very great, but I can take out most things if I don't get mobbed. Interesting combinations of weaps O:
I stopped using sniper ages ago with Roland.
Have you tried Brick?
👍: 0 ⏩: 1
1sand0s In reply to Tired-Al [2010-08-13 23:45:20 +0000 UTC]
Brick is fun just to beat the crap out of stuff. It seems to me he's less of a loner than the others since one entire tree is for defense. Sure you can soak up the damage but if you cannot dish is out it's pointless. That said, I'm playing him solo and it's still quite fun. Completely different mentality than Mordecai, of course. But I've not played anyone else to max which is when you can really see each character shine.

heck ya xD *goes into berserk mode* "HAAAAAAAA!" *rage screams~*
Yeah. I thought Roland would be nice with shotgun and all but then I saw myself getting outgunned/shotgunned by Lilith due to her firerate mod.. so much easier to unload like 3 shots with her and the enemy's down O:
I still don't know how I'd play Mordecai. Stopped playing him at around 20 something~

Many thanks! I'm not updating as much as I like but as always there are many projects firmly rooted in the back of my head. The next thing I'll work on is called Karakuri. It's from a book of the same name which means 'mechanical' in Japanese or so I'm told. It's not origami and it's a step above paper craft. In essence it is paper engineering with cams, gears, cranks, linkages, and levers. Then from another book, which is based off the same principles, is building a working paper clock.
So if you don't see anything for a while don't be surprised. Well, there may be some small stuff like a three headed crane and a samurai helmet. But I do thank you again for the watch!

Haha, I have the exact same issue. So many ideas, so little time.
I can't wait to see your next work. It sounds intense! I am eager to see something harder than what you already do ( I like to see people challenge themselves )
Well, I can't say I've ever seen a three headed crane. I managed to make four cranes connected, but that was a breeze.
A samurai helmet would be awesome!!!!

I'm going to reply on your profile because I want to hang on to the advice you gave me...
Thank you so much for the faves! and, more importantly, thank you for the advice. I'm, ah, what you would call the 'casual artist' and since I'm still in high school, my parents aren't too keen on dropping much money on my art.
WHICH LEADS ME TO SAY THANK YOU...because I really didn't want to drop a lot of my own money on markers without finding out which ones would work well with both my style and my budget.
So thank you! (again!)

Hey, pleasure to help a fellow artist. In fact I'd like to amend my last statement; I found the perfect kit for you. [link] Price wise it's a steal plus you get everything I mentioned, a brush stroke pen, a variety of line width pens, a couple markers, refills, and to top it of a nifty little wallet to carry it around in. I had forgot about it until I was looking for some marker supplies.

LOL, yeah it has something to do with getting $300 dollars worth of tickets and spending $400 for a plane ticket out to California for vacation in a few months. Buying Final Fantasy XIII and the collectors edition strategy guide didn't help much either.
Honestly I never really paid solely for the the features or anything. You know I always use a plain vanilla journal and all. It's that I want to encourage the dA admins to not slack and keep up the good work so this place doesn't turn into Facebook or Myspace. Well, I do hate advertisements and I do love viewing 120 deviations per page.
3 years now and here I slack. Resist the games? Yeah right...

Tired-Al In reply to 1sand0s [2010-03-20 04:35:43 +0000 UTC]
xD That would -just- about do it. Actually, you topped it with icing. Yeah, but what can ya do. Fun often costs money O:
Yeah, I don't really mind the advertisements on dA though, none of them are really uh.. annoying or disturbing like the ones you see on Megaupload or other sites. "Get Ripped in 4 weeks!" "See how this gut with large visible green veins became this slim stomach." or the Evony ads. I don't think dA cycles through many ads on the top banner. I've blocked probably about 5~10 of them and I never see anything there anymore. I'm happy with that.
Indeed, resisting games is rather impossible. Yet I've always seemed to stop playing once I get bored of things. I'm supposed to finish DragonAge - Origins but I just got so sick of doing every little side quest and such. At least Mass Effect 2 was well, kinda more action based. I beat that, but I don't plan on playing it a second time through.
Single player games have been a good break for me, but where I really have fun and flourish is the MMORPGs. Hmm, I need to get back into art. I guess getting sick of single player games is a good call for a break/finding motivation to stir up some art.
