I thinks he's just cute and very interesting to draw.
I tried this style too, but my results are awful and I can't recognize the persons anymore. Do you only take shadows that are in the photo or do you try to form the face with more/other shadows?

Depends on the pic... this particular pic (I think it was the filmstrip one) was already edited by someone who liked it as a tattoo or sth (cant remember atm think a link might be in the description) and I liked the pic so I gave it a shot... so many photos are already edited or I edit them... depending on the pic (edited or not) you can determine on your own whether to use more shadows or just the main face lines found in the pic... its really all up to you and how you feel about what you see... sometimes you start with the basic lines and then add more if you feel it will bring something out a bit more... though there isnt anything exact that I can tell you about it
