I use Photoshop, a little creativity, a lot of playing around, and a tremendous amount of patience.

Ha, I admit to lacking the patience part sometimes. Especially when working for hours on a piece, forgetting to save, and having the computer freeze. So not fun.
But I was never taught anything in Photoshop--everything I know was learned on my own by playing around.
