Heyy, its me again. I'm so sorry that i havn't gotten to even go near the abandoned rehab place. There was a pretty big snow storm, followed by alot a rain, and I've been really busy. I'll try to get a snapshot asap.

i totally understand, its real shitty here in my part of NY too! i want so bad to go out and get some shots, but the single digit weather makes it hard to go outside. keep me up to date when you get a chance to visit the place. i cant wait to see your photos

yup, but they probably won't be too up close, the building backs up on a lake, and the front is fenced off because of the tv set. >.< (sometimes random cops sit in the little alcove drive thing, to catch speeding drivers xD )
So I'll get as close as possible!
I know like a parkinglotish thing (it also backs onto the same lake) where i can get pretty clear shots of the backside of the building. Maybe I'll try some zoomage

This building is pretty huge, and you can see it from quite a ways (well some of the sub-divisions that are popular anyways.) My friend and I went jogging a month or two ago, and we went on some roads on a hill there, and you can see it from practically every street. Lol it stands out quite a bit.

Buutt did i tell yah about the freaky park accross the street? It was like all farm land, and theres like creepy unmarked graves in the woods >.< They say that they are either unclaimed bodies from the rehab center, or family members of the people that owned the farm. Its now a park, really nice... but creepy! It's right on the edge of the ocean also, very beautiful

dean (eclipseagency) is a very smart man and someone i have been growing close to. i take what he says to heart. he is right, people need to understand and learn from the past. all we can do is try to make life better for those who need it. if it were not for the help and support i have recieved over the years, i would not be here today.

I dont know how security is there though. I know that theres a fence and gate around it - mostly because they have abandoned trailers outside (they shoot The trailer park boys there) So i dont know whats inside the building, but it looks spectacular. I'll see if i can get a shot of the front from the road.
Theres a park accross the street and theres a lake behind the building i believe.

I have not shared this with you until now I believe. I did an art installation piece at an abandoned mental hospital in upstate New York. I wanted to live there and stayed there alone night and day for a week. I had full access to all archives. It was the most moving art piece I have ever done. Not just for the voices and ghosts I saw but for what I discovered. I'm trying to find my journal of poems I wrote during that time.
The piece was called "A Whispered Longing" and it was about home and what that meant for the "inmates" there. Yes, they called them inmates. Many were locked up there for being gay, depression, and some because they had no family. I identify with them and imagine I might have been there if I lived in a different time. I'll never forget the worn stairs and handrails as I imagined how many souls traved that way to wear down cement and metal.
I discovered that a former inmate lived in the town below and was willing to act as my guide. What he told me was shocking and horrific. He had a cauliflower ear because they used to slam his head into the floor/walls so hard. When he showed me the showers he told me how cold icy showers were used as punishment. He wasn't making any of this up it was confirmed by the records I read.
He showed me the morgue where bodies were burned when some families were so embarrassed they didn't want a grave or a tombstone. When he opened up one of the body drawers I almost passed out I couldn't breathe because I was afraid some had skeletons. Photos of the dead were scattered on the floors like fallen leaves. Others ended up in a field where they were given a number.
Those cemetaries and the souls that lay within are now being given names by an organization called NAMI which fights to destigmatize mental illness and set history straight.
One night I heard crying coming from one of the top floors. Shaking with my flashlight I followed the echoes to the top floor and found a room full of statues of saints and religious items. In a corner of this room I heard a sniffle. I said aloud "I'm sorry for whatever happened to you. You were not a mistake. It wasn't your fault." And in a pile of debris in the corner was a gothic cross in the dirt. A cross of excorcism... which says "behold the cross of the LORD! FLY YE EVIL POWER!"
I saw the electroshock room and equipment. I saw films and footage that disturb me to this day. I saw the lists of those who were sterilized by force. I saw lists of those whose babies were taken away or forcibly aborted. I saw boxes of human teeth and enough shoes to walk to hell and back.
Maybe I should add this to the comments on your page so people have some background of what went on in these places. People should know.

Incredible work, I just love abandoned buildings, they give me alot to think about, and are surprisingly beautiful, even if they smelll awful and look terrible to some people.
There aren't much places like this around where I live, but the few that do really strike my imagination.
