I once owned a cat that was FIV+, she did not live very long after we found out, but she was one of the most beautiful cats I have ever seen. just out ofΒ curiosity, are those cats put up for adoption?

I am so sorry to hear that she passed... Yes, they are put up for adoption-but unfortunately, rarely do people choose a cat with that kind of diagnosis, as they are afraid the cat would die soon...we can never make guarantees about their lifespan (as we cannot even for ourselves or anyone else) but most of them are living in foster homes for past couple of years without any problems. One of our gorgeous FIV+ is happily adopted and is doing really well. Another problem is that FeLV+ cats cannot live with healthy ones(well, except if they are vaccinated but that is also a bit tricky-both the vaccine and the guarantee). FIV+ cats on the other hand, as you might know, can live with healthy cats, if they are friendly to each other (FIV is primarily transmitted through deep bite wounds).
