Hi there. I heard that you really like Puella Magi Madoka Magica. What did you think of the third movie, Rebellion Story?
π: 0 β©: 1
AlexMdle In reply to Furrnot [2014-05-29 21:24:58 +0000 UTC]
Great visuals, but far harder to follow than the main series. Could only fully digest all of it on the second watch.
Story did not impress me initially, but the payoff was so good that it doesn't bother me since, if anything it's good at building it up.
I consider the gunfight between Mami and Homura to be the worst part of the movie. Looks good, but is entirely filler.
The ending came out of nowhere and I'm not sure what to feel about it. Pretty convinced that Gen wanted to end it there but was obligated into a cliffhanger for the sake of continuing the franchise.
All in all, good watch, but I'd not recommend it to people not familiar with the source material.

MugiMewgi In reply to AlexMdle [2017-05-13 01:12:26 +0000 UTC]
NO IT WASN'T! That movie was positively absolutely terrible, and a disgrace to the series for so many reasons! The Majority of it was just Fan Response, and was like a bad fanfiction!
Like that Cake Song, it was so fucking annoying and juvenile! I'd rather listen to nails screeching on a chalkboard than listen to that God-Forsaken Cake Song again! THIS IS A CUTENESS + ACTION ANIME, NOT A GODDAMNED NICK JR MUSICAL!!!!
Or that damned Nagisa Momoe, who was totally freakin annoying, completely useless, and she was obviously just shoehorned in for no reason other than that Charlotte is such a popular witch! Heck, I looked over the movie and had Nagisa not been in it, IT WOULD HAVE CHANGED NOTHING!
Also, she can just change into Charlotte and back whenever she likes?! THEY ARE NOT FUCKING SUPPOSED TO BE ABLE TO DO THAT! THE WITCH FORM IS IRREVERSIBLE, NOT SOMETHING THEY CAN CHANGE INTO ON A WHIM!
And also, Charlotte's former self was already shown in the series in the silhouettes, and it looks NOTHING LIKE THAT! Plus, they call her "Bebe" now?! What the hell? That's not her name.
There was also that damned Mami in the Shower scene, which was totally uncalled for!
And that part where Hitomi gets turned into a Monster, which was obviously just done to make the fans shut up because Hitomi gets what she deserves for being a jerk and stealing Kyousuke.
Also Homura's Witch Form is wrong! That's not what she is supposed to look like!
The PSP Game already established that Homura's Witch Form IS SUPPOSED TO LOOK LIKE THIS!!!! dion-raz.deviantart.com/art/Hoβ¦
And also it was terrible for that part where Sayaka summoned her witch form, Oktavia Von Seckendorff, but as a Separate Being to help her fight!
THEY ARE NOT FUCKING SUPPOSED TO FUCKING BE ABLE TO DO THAT! WITCHES ARE NOT SEPARATE FROM THE MAGICAL GIRLS, THEY ARE THEY'RE IRREVERSIBLY CORRUPTED FORMS, NOT SEPARATE BEINGS! WITCHES ARE NOT LIKE THE FUCKING STANDS FROM JOJO'S BIZZARE ADVENTURE! THIS GOES AGAINST EVERYTHING ESTABLISHED IN THE SERIES!
And even against the movie itself, since Nagisa turns into Charlotte, not summons Charlotte as a separate entity!
Yes, there's many reasons why that movie was absolutely horrible! Not just the ending!
But the ending also was terrible because A. It was a Diabolos Ex Machina, B. it forced open a closed-ending series, and C. It renders everything in the past 12 episodes pointless!
THAT MOVIE WAS A DISGRACE!
Those are all the reasons why that movie was terrible! And a disgrace to the series! It was about as bad as The Exorcist 2, The Room, or That Avatar The Last Airbender Movie!
Fuck Puella Magi Rebellion Story and Fuck all you Brainless idiot fans who think it was good! IT WAS NOT!!!!!
And last but not least, read all of this here to see all the more reasons why that movie was a god-awful black abomination! There's plenty of more evidence there!Β www.reddit.com/r/TrueAnime/comβ¦

AlexMdle In reply to AlexMdle [2017-05-17 21:40:22 +0000 UTC]
It's literally magic. You are attempting to internalize a set of rules for something that doesn't exist.
Example Sayaka feat. her Oktavia personaβ’ or whatever.
1. Sayaka's actually legit dead (And Oktavia would be too, if not the for the fact that witches dont actually exist anymore) and the movie's pretty clear that the events are not taking place in the real world. Unless you can present me the bulletpoints for how the show has handled ghosts of dead people relating to their quasi-corporeal magic witch forms inside of constructed dreamwords before, that point is literally moot. I'm demanding hard, empyrical data here.
2. Oktavia is pointless. She doesn't really do anything. You can cut her out of the movie and nothing changes. That's not a positive thing, but in order for something be an asspull, it has to actually affect something.
Not that I entirely disagree with what you say, especially on the second point. Lots of plot happens for pretty much no reason within the canology of the series itself, but at least it serves some purpose sofar as it drives the characters and the story in some vague sort of direction.
It's kinda unfocused, the first half is entirely forgettable and kinda stupid. But it provides an excuse for some pretty damn well directed scenes in the second half and the music was pretty good too, so I don't feel particularly offended. Not gonna start disemboweling people over their opinion on the movie any time soon.

By the way, have you ever watched TheMysteriousMrEnter's Animated Atrocities reviews on Youtube and Vid.Me? I've been watching his videos a lot lately, and they can be quite informative. I find him to be better than Nostalgia Critic too.
Anyways, he recently made a review on that old terrible show called Totally Spies. In one part of his review, he says something that could totally relate to why that movie was a downright disgrace and WAS NOT GOOD AT ALL.
I hate to bug you again, but he made the video after I said that, and it gives me something to shoot down your argument.
I will quote what he said in the video here for you, so you don't have to watch the whole video yourself (well at least as well as I can remember it). He says it better than I ever could, and it is relevant to why that movie was a black abomination.
"There is only so far you can stretch Suspension of Disbelief. THERE IS NONE OF THIS IN THIS SHOW. You have to keep what you have from contradicting itself. A show can have any premise ever, especially in animation, there are no limitations. You want a show about a kid who uses magic chalk to enter a fantasy world and fights magic evil chalk drawnings? Okay! You want a show about an organization of children who fight supervillain adults, then that's okay too. But no matter what premise you choose, IT HAS TO BE INTERNALLY CONSISTENT. You make a rule to the show, YOU HAVE TO FOLLOW THAT RULE! Yes, there is such a thing as taking a show too seriously, but then there's the other end of the spectrum, where a show expects you to buy anything, it doesn't put in the effort to pay for what it's asking the audience for. No matter the show or genre, INTERNAL CONSISTENCY IS EXTREMELY IMPORTANT! Even shows with more out-there premises, like Powerpuff Girls where a bunch of girls who were literally born from sugar, spice, everything nice, and a mysterious chemical, who fight kaiju and a big-brained monkey and the devil and green-skinned gangsters and more, ARE STILL INTERNALLY CONSISTENT, (barring a few bad episodes here and there)."

Pretty good music?! I swear if I hear that damned "Who could that cake be?" Song again, I am going to fucking break something!
And you're just damage controlling.Β I suggest you search up "Rebellion ruins Madoka's name" on Google," You'll find some good food for the thought there, and why it was downright terrible! I swear, I'd much rather watch Birdemic than watch that movie!

AlexMdle In reply to MugiMewgi [2017-05-18 07:40:28 +0000 UTC]
Oh, no no. I cringed my way through that song. I mean, you did read the "first half of this movie is kind of forgettable and stupid" part of my post, didn't you?
I also have no interest in damage controlling this movie. I don't particularly care about it. It's not in my top ten. Or close. I liked parts of it though and overall found the experience to be positive for me.
I don't find your points relevant because none of this bothered me when watching it, the rest feels (to me at least) like conjecture.Β And I have no interest in nitpicking it apart because I tend to not get obsessed over things anymore. Every time I hear somebody go "THEY RUINED X" I just imagine somebody, somewhere, getting mad over sonic's blue arms. I think the world will survive.

I do agree with what you just said about Sonic and the Sonic fanbase. The series has become so conflicted and toxic with its fans, with them being like "Sonic should be edgy, Sonic should be classic, Sonic should be the only one playable, Sonic should have more playable characters," this and that, this and that. You can never seem to make them happy. Heck, some of the stuff I've heard from some of them! Also a video I found that describes the state of Sonic so well. www.youtube.com/watch?v=6y-q2Bβ¦
I don't know what's got a worse fanbase, Sonic, Five Nights At Freddys, Undertale, or quite possibly soon, Bendy. Those other ones it took a lot less time for them to become like that though.

MugiMewgi In reply to AlexMdle [2017-05-17 20:20:32 +0000 UTC]
I'm not talking about realism here. I'm talking about Basic Series Logic and following set up rules of a fictional world. You can debate whether or not there were plot holes in the rest of Puella Magi, but none of them were as big and notable as the plot holes in this disgrace of a movie! I see right through your cop-out.
Most of the things in on were clearly just Deus Ex Machina and Diabolus Ex Machina and just Asspulls in general, no foreshadowing, no explanation, those things happened without reason, just because the plot said so. Suspension of disbelief can only go so far, but in an actual show with a plot, when things just start happening, without rhyme or reason like this, then it is just unacceptable! And having magical beings in a show means more rules, not less, a basic rule of writing!
In fact, this sort of stuff like total asspulls and characters out of the blue doing things they are not supposed to do in blatant disregard for things established and what not, is part of the reason why people absolutely despise shows like Teen Titans Go, Fanboy and Chum Chum, that old Donkey Kong Country Show, and the new Powerpuff Girls Reboot! You can't just have this kind of stuff just happen out of the blue because the plot says so! You have to follow a set of rules, and have cohesion! A basic thing of writing!

Hi Alexmdle. I never got to tell you this before, but I have some actual quotes I know of by other great writers that I want to share with you. They explain my views on something you seem to really emphasize on for some reason, and you should probably read too.
Β
Β
βErnest Hemingway
βThere isn't any symbolysm. The sea is the sea. The old man is an old man. The boy is a boy and the fish is a fish. The shark are all sharks no better and no worse. All the symbolism that people say is shit. What goes beyond is what you see beyond when you know. And who understands? Not me, because if I did I would forgive it all.β
Β
βLaurie Halse Anderson
βWho cares what the color means? How do you know what he meant to say? I mean, did he leave another book called "Symbolism in My Books?" If he didn't, then you could just be making all of this up. Does anyone really think this guy sat down and stuck all kinds of hidden meanings into his story? It's just a story.... But I think you are making all of this symbolism stuff up. I don't believe any of it.β
Β
βSigmund Freud
βSometimes a cigar is just a cigar.β
βRoger Ebert
βIf you have to ask what it symbolizes, it didn't.β

Oh and by the way, I don't post quotes like that just to "sound smart." I posted quotes like that because you didn't seem to be understanding my point earlier, and I felt that it would make you finally get my point. But apparently I was wrong about that.
Oh and another comparison one that I'd like to state.
Have you ever seen the South Park episode of "The Tale of Scroty McBoogerballs?" Well in that one, the South Park kids write a book that is supposed to be chock full of absolutely mature and disgusting and inappropriate material, after they read "Catcher In The Rye" and were unimpressed and didn't find it to be mature enough like they were previously told.
Well then in the episode, after they get the book published, lots of people are then saying "Oh this scene was symbolic of this, or that part symbolizes that," and such, even though the boys were telling them that, "No, it's just supposed to be as revolting and inappropriate as possible, there is no hidden meanings." And the readers kept thinking that it was symbolic when it wasn't. That whole South Park episode was a perfect demonstration of how stupid Symbolism is. You should watch that "Scroty McBoogerballs" episode, and you'll see.
