# About me

My name is Alexandra Belikova and I was born on 8.7.1987 in Prerov. I attended a basic school in Vsechovice village where I've been living all my life. I studied a secondary Art school in Valasske Mezirici which I finished by final exams in 2006. I countined my studies at private College of fine arts in Zlin where I also graduated in 2009. I have been studying painting, which I continue to study at the branch of the University of Ostrava in Zlin and ended as BcA (bachelor of arts).
The studies in Zlin were extremelly beneficial for advancing of my skills and I ostentatiously fell in love with painting, which has become my real passion. I would like to pay tribute to the whole Zlin faculty, especially to professor Pavel Preisner and academic painter mr. René Hábl, who were pointing me in the right direction from the very beginning.
Except for painitng I'm also interested in drawing and amateur photography. The themes I choose for my paintings are mostly inspired by reality, but I also choose themes from my mind.
I prefer fantasy scenes and figures incorporated in a surroundings, which has become typical for me. My greatest ideal is none of the great painters, but an American writer Stephen King, whose horror stories have accompanied me for a long time. He really inspires me. Beside of Stephen King I have also favorites in the world of fine are.
I've become a fan of recently deceased Andrew Wyeth, an American painter, who was specializing in lonely scenes, which were dreamlike and full of nostalgia.
I also really admire old masters of paint especially from classicism period, for example Jacques Louis David, or from a period of romanticism Kaspar David Friedrich.

Photography means for me the same as for the impressionists once – capturing on the moment.
I'm not concerned about the moment of light, but about the happening, that is either important or interesting to me. I'm not interested in specific themes, just take a picture of anything what my lens can see. At home our catlike furry-balls are my models, outdoors I capture the frosty fogs emanating from woods and valleys right before the sunrise.
For the future I'd like to achieve many things, many of which might only be a dream (but one never knows...) In the first instance it's painting of course, but being able to live out of this is probably a naive thought. Book illustration attracts me the most. I really admire work of Allan Lee who illustrated all books of Lord of the Rings by J.R.R.Tolkien, or Brett Helquist and his illustration for Lemony Snicket's Series of Unfortunate Events.
