It's for a convention, I'm with a local comic group and we are all making a short comic with a rabbit, robot, umbrella and dragon. It's pretty random but once that's passed, I'll be happy to work on my own stuff

Awesome! I'll look forward to it! What type of comic/series do you want to make?
Mine is slowly progressing, sometimes it goes on hiatus because life gets in the way. X(

Don't offense to it but maybe consider having some artwork accompanying written story? Most people I know haven't finished their comics... I still prefer dialogue as being a writer would give me a headache from too many word choices. But either way I'm supportive of whichever medium you choose Life certainly gets in the way when you're not a full time artist >.<
Going to do a psychological thriller and some fantasy stories,... lol I love fantasy... great escape from a magicless world.

I have some character protraits with short bio but I'll definitely take your suggestion and tell more about the story with the picture!
Yes! Fantasy is the best! And psychological thrillers are also really fun too! Likewise, whatever medium you choose I'll be supportive! I'll love to see what you come up with!

I'd love to see them. Can always do comics of important parts to accompany it. Just I would love to see your completed story
Fantasy is great. I watch and read fantastical things to immerse myself in a magical world... real life fiction... might as well live XP ? What psychological thrillers do you like? Do you like Satoshi Kon, Darren aronofsky, The fall 2006 by Tarsem Singh? Those are really great.
Thanks for the support! I've had a big change of plan and will be pushing for another comic for the convention.

I've seen the Hannibal movies, and I've read the plot summaries of other psychological thrillers movies. I tend to read the detailed summary because of lot of those movies tend to border on horror and I get scared really easily. Although I do like the horror genre and especially some horror art. I haven't heard of those authors, but I'll definitely check them out!
Do you go to conventions a lot? Sounds like your comic group has lots of fun! How do you like working in a group?

My comic is finishing up, 2 more pages so I'll have something to show you at last. Awwww that's so cute. Horror scares me too, it depends on which ones. If there's comics of the horror movies, I cope much better reading them. Wow, so there's a tv series and a movie saga too for Hannibal.
Satoshi Kon is an easy way to start off, I think the anime style makes it less scary.
I've been at conventions but this is my first time selling at one... am nervous and not sure what to expect. I've only been with this group this year so is exciting. It's good, our projects are as individuals but they give workshops on comics, and we can get feedback off eachother. What about you? Have you ever sold things at a convention?

Savinee In reply to AnnaRIART [2015-05-06 04:16:47 +0000 UTC]
wow, I'll look forward to it! I just googled Satoshi Kon and I have seen Tokyo Godfathers and Millennium Actress. I did watch a trailer for Perfect Blue when I was really young and it somewhat scared me, so even now I unconsciously avoid it. I should watch it
I sold once at a convention, and it was really unexpected since it was also the first one attending one. I had a friend whom had a close friend that was hosting the convention, so I was able to get in for free and I didn't have to pay for a table. But at the time I knew nothing about conventions, only that people cosplay at them. So when I went I just printed some drawings on glossy paper, I just had 18 prints and that was it. I was so embarrassed when I saw other artists decorate their tables so nicely and had so much merchandise to sell. One girl felt pity for me and gave me some cloth to cover my table. I decided to go for one day so they can sell my spot to someone that wanted it more than me. Now I just go to conventions as a customer since I'm not good enough to sell anything. OTL

YESSS!!!!! MILLENNIUM ACTRESS IS ONE OF MY FAVOURITE MOVIES OF ALL TIME! Such mastery. I saw Tokyo godfathers but didn't like it as much. Satoshi Kon passed away too soon. You should see Perfect Blue, it's not that scary at all but can be disturbing. What's the most terrifying movie you've seen but were able to stomach? Paprika was also great, consistently good anime director. Too bad his films never profited hence he made so few of them.
Lucky you! You got a free table. Not sure I'll break even but it's for the experience. Awww was nice of her. Actually don't talk down on yourself, you are actually decent. I'm not saying this out of pity either. You shown a good hand in line art and you seem to have a good understanding of realistic facial proportion. Unlike a lot of artists with good facial proportion, you have a natural ability to draw beautiful people, especially the Syren on your website. You even shaded the feathers very well, giving depth but still being pure white. You also have designed one of the best dresses I've seen (I have 800 faves). I think once you are able to colour with depth and draw figures, your art will improve a lot. I think you tend to focus on portraits a lot and portraits don't generate many views and you don't post your art on many groups either. I know this artist, amazing original artwork portraits, holds exhibitions and workshops but has very little traffic on deviant and doesn't post on groups. joannebarby.deviantart.com/gal…
What I'm trying to say is your artwork is good, you're not even untouched potential, you're already good and can be even better.

That's too bad for Satoshi Kon, I didn't know that. My first scary movie I saw all the way through plus watching the sequel was the Japanese version of the grudge. Ju-on I think (I'm too scared to google the correct spelling ) I don't know if that counts as being able to stomach it since I wasn't able to sleep alone or with the lights off for three months OTL The same director did another movie (I can't remember the name, and there's no way I'm googling the grudge to find it!) about this guy who went to the subway and found an underground land. He finds a girl there and takes her home, but she only feeds off of blood so he starts killing people. It wasn't as scary. I watched Pan's Labyrinth and that made me realize horror can be beautiful. Everything was just so beautifully designed despite it being scary! What about you?
Thanks! Thank you for the critique, I'll work on those. I used to draw a lot of full body illustrations and generally drew a lot, but somewhere along the way I stopped and I do know I'm not drawing as good as I used to. And I'm not saying this as an excuse, but today I saw a psychologist and an urgent care doctor and they both diagnosed me with depression and provided medication. Depression has definitely taken a toil on my desire to draw but hopefully with this medication I can find my passion again. (Oh gosh my website, I haven't updated that in months! )
p.s. I could have sworn I hit the watch button for you but your page is showing that I didn't. I was looking at your gallery because I love how colorful and illustrative everything is, and then I was wondering why I didn't get your newest work in my inbox. OTL

I saw his deaths years before I saw his movies. Then I finally saw him and realised, NOOOOOO He's the anime director that died!!!!! It makes me most sad thinking of the works he could have made. I prefer him over Hayao Miyazaki, his works are too "light" for me.
Well in that case A perfect Blue should be nothing compared to the movies you've seen. You're cute, seeing the sequels though the movies terrified you for months XD
I think we gave similar tastes! I LOVE pan's labyrinth. It had this perfect balance of horror and fantasy... I agree, it was beautiful. What fantasy do you watch? I've been looking for titles to watch but it's quite limited apart from LOTR, HP, Narnia... May need to start reading again...
No worries, what program do you use to colour? Thank you for sharing, you are very brave.
That's not an excuse, that's a reason and I'm happy to know you are taking care of yourself. Most artists have swings in interest and procrastinate anyway... I've looked at your portraits from March and they are of the standard of your early portraits so you've not got worse I see you used to draw more full battling figures, sure it'll come back in time. I have resources to recommend if you like.
nawwww thanks for following. I LOVE COLOUR! my favourite photographer is Mika Ninagawa www.google.com.au/search?q=mik…
However I plan to experiment and do darker pics too.

The things that they could have made always makes me sad thinking about it.
I saw the first movie and the sequel in one sitting. My eldest brother was talking about the movie and I thought it was a normal movie about a family. So him, my sister, and I watched it at night only to realize it was a horror movie once everything was over. To make it even more embarrassing, I was 15 when it happened and I slept in my parents bed for two weeks before they kicked me out to my own room. haha. I love Game of Thrones, but it is violent and it does have sex scenes :\ The Labyrinth is also really good.
Thank you for that, it makes me feel better! I use photoshop and a cintiq tablet. I would love resources! Thanks for sharing
That photographer is amazing! I like zemotion I would definitely like to see some darker works.

It is >.< He's one of the few I know who have died when they had so much more to offer.I seee... Am surprised you didn't notice by the first movie, or maybe you were hooked then. XD Awwww that's cute and funny that you got kicked out of your parents bed at 15. Game of thrones is really great! XD I think I'm the only one but... the pacing was so fast and so many bad things started happening in season 1, I felt on edge as if I was watching a horror. Considerably less sex scenes from season 4 though. I love Labbyrinth too, especially the ball scene. I kept watching that during my exams. I think it wasn't as dark or deep as it could have been potential to be a dark romance (with different leads of course).
No worries, you deserve to be kind to yourself Ughhh photoshop, I used to use elements but now find photoshop so hard to blend, struggling to get back into photoshop. I use paint tool sai mostly, it has the best vector line and line editing (tried manga studio and ps also). The great thing about it is once you finish the line art or at any stage, you can save it as a photoshop document and use photoshop to finish up your artwork.
artists.pixelovely.com/practic… It's fast, I use the mannequin models to draw from Andrew Loomis' book. Sure you can find it anyway online or draw your own way. After a while, I found I could draw better without references. The adventurer was drawn without references except for hands.
Figure drawing for all it's worth by Andrew Loomis
Perspective! for comic book artists by David Chelsea (whole thing is in comic format!)
Understanding comics: The invisible art by Scott McCloud (All the comickers I know recommend it. In process of reading it now, is quite insightful).
I know zemotion, she did a a girl in the kimono with an umbrella. One of my favourite photographic piece.

What did you think about the latest season for Game of Thrones? I like how Sansa was on screen more but I don't like the abuse she is getting. I agree with you on Labyrinth, I wish it was more dark. I want to wish for a remake but only if it's better than the original. Which is probably why a remake won't happen, haha!
I definitely want to try Paint Tool Sai, and thank you for those references!

>.< Why can't I see these posts til now.
Sansa's marriage episode was very hard to watch... It left me feel pretty shaken.
Labyrinth was originally meant to be dark but Bowie wanted it darker and more humorous... but that annoyed me as I didn't find any of the jokes funny. XD They can never do a remake. David Bowie is the only man who could pull off those outfits and hair without looking ridiculous.
No worries, the references were shared to me too, good to spread it round. Hope they help.

Yeah, Sansa was feeling empowered and Ramsay was like, I hope I can make her happy. I was hoping she would be able to manipulate him, but NO!

Yeah.... I couldn't believe it was an actual moment, they ruined her single empowered scene. I was hoping they were in the tower, she would get herself out of it or light the candle and be saved... And in front of Theon too... Very messed up... I was a bit relieved to find the tv show didn't parallel with the novels.

I feel there;s a lot of value and emotion to art. It's a shame that attention to detail and all the elements which make your art so mesmerizing was criticised and unappreciated in your country. I'm glad you ignored the critics and continued to create masterful pieces.
