# About me
Born in 1992, I currently attend the Academy of Fine Arts in Bologna (comics & illustration). My goal is to become an illustrator or concept artist for fantasy/sci-fi videogames, boardgames or roleplaying games, maybe even a game designer. I love making maps and battle mats in photoshop, and I love writing adventures for roleplaying games. Oh, and I love drawing monsters. Yup.Whatever maps you find on my page are, unless otherwise stated, free for you to download and print as long as it's for personal use (your home group). I'd be happy to know if this happens (feedback is always appreciated). Please understand that any other use of my work is forbidden (if you run an adventure during a convention and want to use my maps, please contact me so that we can discuss the terms).
Other than that, have a good time on my page and on DA, everyone! :)

You're welcome! I really liked how bold you made the lights and darks....a choice that strongly reflected the intensity of the subject matter.

You're very welcome! As a warmachine/hordes player, I've had a chance to enjoy the models you help creating. Really nice stuff, Sir!

Where do you find the furniture and stuff to put into your maps?

I actually search for images on the net or "build" the objects in photoshop. For example, the ballistas are composed of various layers of wood texture adjusted with shadow effects.

Hey! You've got some great ship art here! I've been looking for a ship map for my campaign if you are interested in drawing it. It's a pirate ship called the black Pheonix. Think of a cross between the black pearl and the Flying Dutchmen, with a Pheonix molded onto the front. I understand if you can't do this, just let me know! You have some awesome skills man!

First of all, thanks a lot for your kind words
Though I can't assure you I'll be done with it in a short time, I could give it a try. However, I definitely need some information about the ship, its function, and the overall look. A very rough drawing of the various decks and castles, mainly to get the battlemap's squares right, as well as how many cannons the ships has, what kind of energy propels it (air or rowing), how many masts... plus, the "mood" you need from the map: my ships are a lot "generic", while the Flying Dutchman (the Davy Jones version) is rotting and has an heavy focus on pale and green colours; the Queen Anne's Revenge from the 4th movie, instead, had some red/black colour scheme. What really matters is that the maps work for you during the session

Thank you so much for replying!!! Basically, this is an old pirate ship that is lost in legend. I can't figure out how to send pictures on here, so I will describe it. It's a large ship, dark wood, I picture it this size

With this front to the ship

It's a magic ship, it has a mind of it's own. It is propelled by air in the sails, I picture three masts, black sails, no cannons, we are playing in a world without that technology.
You can do it as generic as you want to, but a few things I really would love are a big captains quarters, nice and fancy, a first mates area, preferably a two person bed in both of those. A brig on the bottom deck. And also, a unique feature, there is a room at the front that opens up out into the mouth of the Phoenix on the front so that a wizard can shoot fire out of the mouth onto it's enemies! Let me know if you need any other information! You can email me at rvteen@hotmail.com or message me here! Thank you so much! Let me know if you need anything else!

Cool, I'll start working on this as soon as I can. I love the idea of the mouth. Question: are there cannons? You know, not every D&D campaign uses fire powder. Many settings just include ballistas

No cannons, as much as I love them, my dm says no. Ballistics are fine, but not many. Put them however you want, but don't go crazy with them, just a practical amount. This ship is really a cross between all three of the awesome pirates of the Caribbean ships. Flying Dutchmen, black pearl, and the queen Anne's revenge. Thank you again! You are amazing for doing this!

well, no problem I guess 3 ballistas per side (fixed position), plus two on the poop castle (these able to turn around) could be good for a not-weapon-heavy galleon.

Cool! Works for me!!! Btw, I had a thought, could you put a balcony style deck off the back of the captains quarters? I assume the captains quarters will be off the main deck under the wheel?

Araknophobia In reply to Zitarion [2013-05-25 02:34:01 +0000 UTC]
of course they will. The balcony is a nice touch and most 17th century ships sported one on the poop side of the deck, below the poop castle (where the wheel is). So, a basic layout of the ship would include (going from base to top of the vessel):
1. hold/bilge (barrels, lifeboats, ropes...)
2. "gun" deck (3 ballistas per side in the central section, hammocks for the crew on the front and two first mates' quarters with two person beds, chests and small desks)
3. main deck (wide central area with lifeboats and ropes, cook's "kitchen" on the front, captain's quarters on the back with maybe a locked room with a chest, a bookcase and a balcony sticking out of the ship's back)
4. fo'castle (open area with ropes, plus a covered area with the small room inside the phoenix's head) and poop castle (wheel, small turrets with rotating ballistas)
Let me know if this sounds right. Question: you said the ship has a mind of its own. Is there any "elemental power chamber" or the likes I should be taking into account? Furthermore, you asked for a "brig" on the bottom deck. I actually don't know what a brig is (apart from the type of ship with that name, but I guess you weren't asking for a ship inside a ship... SHIPCEPTION), and by bottom deck are you meaning the bilge or the lower/gun deck? [link]

Sounds awesome! The brig is like the prison area with cages for hostages. By the bottom deck I mean the very lowest part of the ship. Could you possibly add another deck, putting hamocks on the gun deck and then several first mate style rooms on the other? The galley could also be on that level with a dining area. Also, how do you plan on laying out the captains quarters? This is going to be awesome! I can't wait!

Araknophobia In reply to Zitarion [2013-05-25 12:19:39 +0000 UTC]
Well, I guess now we have:
1. bilge (now with cages for hostages)
2. lower deck with galley on the front, dining room in the middle, some rooms (I guess four is the maximum if we don't want it to be too cramped) on the back
3. gun deck (hammocks for the crew, ballistas, first mate quarters)
4. main deck (without the "kitchen" on the front because now everything's in the galley, now we can put there some barrels and ropes)
5. fo'castle and quarterdeck
Regarding the masts: three (fore, main, mizzen) plus... a bowsprit? or not?

I'm almost done with the main deck of the ship. I found a jpg of a persian carpet for the captain's quarters. It looks surprisingly good on the map P-:
