# About me

Years ago I started drawing my own Christmas and Birthday cards because the cards in the shops were either expensive or not my style. Many people like the drawings, but as I'm not very good with computers or design programs the cards don't look too professional. I'd like to have a pixie-series printed one day. I'm putting them up here to see if there is any interest from the 'outside world', that is, beside my friends and family.

I taught myself card weaving about five years ago and after that I took up a part-time weaving course in Ghent. I'm now in my fourth year and studying South-American inkle weave techniques. I demonstrate card weaving as an iron age reenactor on various living history festivals and in schools. I own a four-shaft Leclerc loom.

Next to weaving and drawing I like photography, especially macro pics of flora and fauna.

Nature is very important for me and this shows in my drawings, my photos and the fibres I work with.

They are well deserved I admire the patience with which you embroidered the whole tissue for the purse, and not just the borders. It's almost like weaving with a needle

Yes, You have right, that is like a weaving with a needle. It takes many, many hours (about 72-75 h only for embroidery) but the effect is worth every minut which I spend on it

It's a lovely craft ! And you can take it on the bus, train and anywhere you like. When I want to weave something like this, I have to stay at home with my loom

To take it to train or bus is not that easy as You think... We had (in Poland) horrible roads with many holes in it. When you ride the bus, everything is shaking and you can not hit the needle in the right place. In the trains are very similar. So yes, I can take embroidery with me, but only to work on it, once I get to the destination.

Just polish reality

Haha, I get that Belgian buses are not very comfortable either, but the trains are mostly good for needlework

I could embroider in train only if it stop in the middle of the nothing for hour for example And that situation is happen. Not always but often - yes.

Thank you for returning the watch I took some more time today to properly browse your gallery and I love your embroidery work. I tried to take up embroidery some time ago but never got much further than the cross stitch. Do you know if there is a good online manual for early medieval embroidery techniques ?

I have no idea.. my mother has this awesome embroidery book that i borrowed to learn some specefic stitches, but even then i developped what i did from one project to the next, doing what felt confortable... the only stitche i know i did to be historical is the bayeux tapestry technique used for filling spaces... But you can always try the search engine, youre bound to find something. Sorry i cant be of more help :/

I envy your persistence in weaving big things like blankets. I usually get tired of a pattern after half a meter and then change it, which sometimes makes the end result look rather patchy...

deviantmallory In reply to Aranyakanya [2011-12-31 13:23:02 +0000 UTC]

I understand! Most of the interest is getting it warped, and then seeing if the pattern will work...once I've got everything going, I want it to be finished so I can start a new project...the rhythm of weaving can be a good meditation, however, and I do enjoy the finished pieces!
