for me it's there are four different reasons i think.
one, is to show people or make the reader feel what's the difference from abuse or discipline?
second reason, sometimes children can misunderstand parent's love after they got corporal punishment, no, not with the cane. leave one out although i do those scenes. lol.
third reason, try to find a conclusion, should we continue the corporal punishment which there still exist in the world?
fourth reason, i am religious person who believes in the word "spare the rod and spoil the child. which means, should i use those method on my future generation or not? -_- probably that's a no answer. but i can't guarantee because anger can infer those situation.

I'm not sure about your age, but I'll assume you're an adolescent and calibrate my response on that basis...
The issue of abuse verses discipline in reference to corporal punishment is an issue for each individual to wrestle with. In many countries, Asia for instance, corporal punishment is still used in the home and in schools. Most EU countries have banned corporal punishment for parents and teachers alike. I'll leave it to you to decide if this is a good or bad thing, because like so many other issues in life, there isn't a black and white answer. It depends on your own personal attitude, and that attitude would have been formed by your cultural background and family structure.
You are an intelligent girl so I'm sure you'll form your own opinions independent of these factors.
