Tattooing is my passion & career. I enjoy drawing and painting as well. I am currently working at Lure Tattoo in Vienna, WV. Mat - I LOVE the cardinal in the buckeye tree. I'd like to talk about possibly doing this as tribute to my mother. She passed away in July 2012. She was a HUGE OSU Buckeye fan and when I get to thinking about her I usually see a cardinal flying by. Pleas email me. lyonde2001@yahoo.com.

Hey man, Thanks for the watch. I know it doesn't seem like it right now, but your lucky. I've always wanted to learn to tattoo, just can't find anyone to really teach me. I have machines & supplies, but I'm not really willing to go scratch someone up without proper instruction. Anyway, hang in there man, the best gig of your life is probably right around the corner!

Thanks for those encouraging words. You do some killer artwork man & I think you would make a great tattoo artist. It's awesome that you have respect enough for the art & industry to not do it from your house & try to teach your self. If you're looking to get into it then I would suggest making a portfolio of your drawings & to go from shop to shop asking experienced artist in your area for an apprenticeship. Getting your Blood Borne Pathogens & First Aid from the American Red Cross or ICPRI.com would also be smart to have & take with you to these shops. Thanks again man, good luck.

Thanks. I got into tattooing when I was 19, I was getting a tattoo & I just asked the guy if they would let me apprentice & he replied "Sure, we can always use somebody to clean the shop." I did a lot of cleaning but I learned a lot. I got to watch the artist work & I started tattooing oranges & fake skin for practice. I was lucky tho, some people will make you pay for an apprenticeship. I would suggest looking for an artist who's work you like, somebody who you admire & would like to learn from. Bring a portfolio of drawings, walk in & ask them if they will let you apprentice. They may turn you down but don't give up, just keep going back & asking & try different shops. You can get a first aid & prevention of blood borne pathogens certification from icpr.com, that would really be helpful to have & would show the shop you are trying to apprentice at that you are serious. When you do land an apprenticeship expect to do a lot of bitch work, an apprenticeship can last anywhere between six months to a year. I hope that helps.
