# About me
Art has always fascinated me. Not just one style of art, though I certainly have my preferences, and I try to keep an open mind and have cultivated an appreciation for numerous styles and artists. Artwork featuring bleak landscapes (forests or what-have-you), dragons and other fantastical creatures, surreal or abstract images are very much at the top of my list.I began making art when I was in the 7th grade. I created geometric designs with a pencil and ruler, so the pictures were always in black and white. The more complex I could make them, the better. It was always a point of pride for me, and I remember that, even then, one of my biggest inspirations was M.C. Escher, specifically his work, Relativity. While I couldn't hold a candle to the man, it was a further inspiration to me because, while I do not see well (my depth-perception is almost nil, and technically I'm considered legally blind), I did see well enough to grasp the concepts behind works like Relativity. The illusions laid out in that one piece inspired a majority of my early work. But then, I couldn't explain why, I just stopped. The desire never left, but, unlike those who focus a majority of their time creating beautiful works, the drive wasn't there. I could come back to it or not, as I wished. At that time, I dabbled with stuff like MS Paint and other digital mediums. My work was less than stellar to my way of thinking, and I was discouraged because I couldn't find a way to create the things I saw in my mind. While that may be a failing of the artist rather than the tool he uses, I set it aside again until a few years ago, when some friends said that I should take it back up, because I had an 'artistic personality'.
At that time, I discovered a nifty little open source program that let me delve into my love of geometry (ironically, I suck at math. I just love the juxtaposition of shapes and colors that create odd or otherwise impossible patterns) and put together fantastic and abstract pieces representing all sorts of things. Being able to look at something, anything – a person, a building, a mountain, a car, a hubcap, and take inspiration from it, is one of the greatest things I can think of, especially whilst in a dry spell. I still don't make pictures every day, and sometimes they don't turn out quite like what I had envisioned, yet I am always trying to improve and explore new horizons. I doubt I will ever tire of creating art, and I can only get better. I only hope that those who see my work appreciate it as much as I do, even if not for the same reasons.
