Why, did I miss something?

Lorin gave a big lecture on how for pre-viz, we don't need to learn much AT ALL except animation, cinematography, camera shots, and how to make a good story reel. He is AWESOME

I spoke to him earlier that evening, he told me to draw formula 1 cars as best I could.

I know ATEC offers a lighting and composition class but when I took it there wasn't much in the way of composition. Other than animation, I would look into film classes if UTD offers any

Also I would try and go to those story-jam things the guild does, seems like a good way to build up a few of those quickly.

Don't get discouraged.

I just went to the story jelly recently. That's how I got a crash course in after effects, though I still
can't figure out how to time things the way I want.

Also, composition isn't that hard to learn. There are a few tutorials here on DA that explain it
with great detail. It's just a matter of planning your art with the setting in mind. If you are really worried about it, you could talk to Chris Oatley, he has a site in his name. He is currently teaching his online Painting Drama class for story telling through composition, so I don't know how much free time he'll have but catch him on twitter and ask questions too. He works for Disney.

Not really, it'll only move as fast as people are! I'm just being nosy!

Interesting username, how'd you come up with it?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Ashtarth In reply to RachBurns [2009-03-04 07:38:23 +0000 UTC]

Well thats a long story.

Shortened version is that I stole it from Bomberman 64, The Second Attack.

Since it's a rather obscure game and character, I don't get called out on it.

I see you're a writer. I envy writers. I'm no good with words :/

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

RachBurns In reply to Ashtarth [2009-03-04 07:40:51 +0000 UTC]

Currently, I feel like I'm not much good with them either--just get it out, y'know?

And I played Bomberman 64, someone had gotten it to the ice level. Never got past that level, but I learned how to blow him up...XD

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Ashtarth In reply to RachBurns [2009-03-04 07:41:40 +0000 UTC]

Ashtarth was lord of the winds.

He wasn't a terribly difficult boss, but I hated his stage. So I had to fight him over and over cause I'd beat him, then blow myself up a couple minutes later.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

RachBurns In reply to Ashtarth [2009-03-04 07:42:52 +0000 UTC]

That is absolutely what I managed to do. Beat someone, then defeat my own character with no mercy.

Pity the enemies never got that. XD

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Ashtarth In reply to RachBurns [2009-03-04 07:44:25 +0000 UTC]

I never quite understood why the hero has to be the one to go infiltrate bases and blow them up.

Why can't the villians ever come to me?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

RachBurns In reply to Ashtarth [2009-03-04 07:46:30 +0000 UTC]

They're lazy cowards. Blame pity the hero can't just blow up the base and take care of 10/11 of the enemies!

Noo, y'have to go through the base.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Ashtarth In reply to RachBurns [2009-03-04 07:48:08 +0000 UTC]

You'd figure BOMBERMAN would understand how to handle large scale demolitions.

Forget invading, I'll just blow up the planet you're on.

HOW BOUT THEM APPLES

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

RachBurns In reply to Ashtarth [2009-03-04 07:52:00 +0000 UTC]

It'd work who knows how much better!

But, like most times...Bomberman is the one blowing himself to pieces. Some of the times, I couldn't even put my finger on how I got blown up, just that I did.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Ashtarth In reply to RachBurns [2009-03-04 07:54:25 +0000 UTC]

Often times It would be because Bomberman is the type of guy who needs a power-up to figure out how to kick something.

So you drop the bomb.
...uh... kick it? oh no, can't do that, don't have the powerup for that yet.

BOOM

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

RachBurns In reply to Ashtarth [2009-03-04 07:56:03 +0000 UTC]

Gosh, that needs a comic. XD Of him realizing he can't kick yet and he's stuck where he is for an eternal second, mind just a flying, before getting blown up.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Ashtarth In reply to RachBurns [2009-03-04 07:57:55 +0000 UTC]

bomberman himself is a pretty boring character to draw, though.

Just a series of circles

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

RachBurns In reply to Ashtarth [2009-03-04 08:00:03 +0000 UTC]

Very true, sadly. He was the first character I "learned" to draw, when I couldn't even manage a circle.

Maybe someone'll think of it.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Ashtarth In reply to RachBurns [2009-03-04 08:03:11 +0000 UTC]

well characters like him, kirby, other kinds of things are good to start out with, cause the less detail, the less daunting, and so the task is less intimidating.

been drawing long?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

RachBurns In reply to Ashtarth [2009-03-04 08:06:05 +0000 UTC]

I got off writing every little thing in 04, I think. So maybe about 5 years?

Your drawings are nicely detailed, how long have you been able to do that? I've sorta been staying with "cartoony" looks.

Ashtarth In reply to RachBurns [2009-03-04 08:22:24 +0000 UTC]

i started college in the fall of 07. that was when i began drawing from life. using models and such.

RachBurns In reply to Ashtarth [2009-03-04 08:28:35 +0000 UTC]

I will have to say that anything from life is going to be much better than from something like the posemaniacs site.

Your art sure has the "real" jump to it.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Ashtarth In reply to RachBurns [2009-03-05 02:18:23 +0000 UTC]

whats a posemaniac?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

RachBurns In reply to Ashtarth [2009-03-05 02:38:37 +0000 UTC]

It just shows poses. They're good to draw from, if you don't have life ones to base a drawing on.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Ashtarth In reply to RachBurns [2009-03-05 03:01:49 +0000 UTC]

i've never been able to draw from using a picture :/

if i draw from any reference, it's usually from life.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

RachBurns In reply to Ashtarth [2009-03-05 03:19:01 +0000 UTC]

Ouch, really? >< I don't think I'd have ever managed anything if I couldn't. @o

And I don't blame you at all for drawing for life--it's always better than just looking at pics.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Ashtarth In reply to RachBurns [2009-03-05 08:09:35 +0000 UTC]

just never done it well :/
