Hello!
I would certainly watch the movie before reading my fanfic...it continues where the movie left off. It is not like I'm Alive in which THAT story is self contained. The reader really didn't have to see Maleficent to enjoy that story.
There are cues and references to the movie with my Strange Magic fanfic though, so it is necessary to see the movie.
But do go see it, it is a good movie (despite what critics say).
Mudstar was the one that turned me on to that movie. She usually sees movies before me and gives me a heads up on what is good. Strange Magic was a hit with my family.
