You have the most interesting elemental visions of a smile ^^ Hah... it reminded me of a roleplaying novel I had a long time ago: "A shadow was born" There were beings there in cybspace that showed their emotions through colours and light..

The Strugazki brothers... I feel a sympathy towards you Sorry Im writing in English but my Russian sucks..

Have you ever thought of drawing something related to them and their writings? The "Picnic" for example?

And wgat about you - how do you find Strugazki? What do you see in those writers and words of them?)))

Ayoxin In reply to Bisseris [2007-06-09 18:44:24 +0000 UTC]

Strugazki are my one and undivided love ^^ Although I havent got the chance to read everything they wrote I love the unique way they write. What I mean is that its not... how do I put it? Dry? Most sci-fi writers have their stories neatly written, reminding of a mechanism in action. They have the ready, clished heroes that follow their own petty paths and most commonly kick everyone's ass in the and ( blame the US for that, cheap action stories ^^ ). Anyways Strugazki have a feeling of how to depict the human soul, the relationships they build between their heroes are so real that they sometimes made me cry ( Shoehart for example in the end of "Пикник на обочине" that spills his human anger and bitterness of the world that makes an animal out of man, makes us fall to our greed, lust and desire to be superior... At least that's the way I saw it back there )

Anyways, the other one that really got to me was "Жук в муравейнике" I prefer the original names cause they sound better than the English crap that fills our heads lately... The idea that humans could be superior to other humans isnt new but Strugazki turned it into one of great importance in our modern world of Psi-tech and the attempt of total domination over the mind. I dont know about you my dear Alex but Im pretty sure that Psi-control exists and its used subtly and quietly to control the masses ( that reminds me of Belyaev Remember his novel "The Lord of the world"? I cant remember the original name... ) Anyways Mak Sim was so unique that I started dreaming of him so vividly... Oh yes and the subtle game with the antiutopian society of the place, the post-apocalyptic landscape, the sentient dogs and... oh Шчекн Итрч He would've been mad about someone calling him a "dog". Unique...

Второе нашествие марсиан? I could go on for hours talking about them... Im a part of a sci-fi club here in Plovdiv, sometimes we gather and talk about certain authors and it was really funny cause I was the only youngster that talked about them, while the other fans of the Strugazki were guys in their middle fifties They were surprised... the funny thing is that the people my age dont read here. Not just sci-fi, Im talking anything that has a meaning. Any philosophy scares them away... Its sad.

Anyways Im stopping now otherwise I'll flood your box

Bisseris In reply to Ayoxin [2007-06-10 14:17:24 +0000 UTC]

You can flood, if you want,, but where i tha flood?)
As it is a lot of impressions at you from books. YOU know, I live in Russia and constantly I feel a zone of alienation about which brothers wrote. It is possible to tell, that they meant Ukraine, but it seems to me, that the scene of action of their novel is a human soul. Both the zone of alienation, and execution of desires - all is inside of all of us. People Most my favourite products - " Picnic on a roadside ", " Monday begins on Saturday ", " Hotel at the lost climber ", " Disgusting swans " and " the Snail on a slope " as it seems to me. I not куфв still all of them of the book, to my shame.

I only have the Picnic and currently its in the hands of Андрей a friend of mine that wanted to read it.. I miss that book ^^ About the soul and their books I think you may be right, after all they prefer writing about the human psyche more than about something far away in space and unlike other authors they dont use aliens as a source of war. I dislike that deus ex machina way of always putting aliens in the position of invaders like the "War of the Worlds" did and like "Battlefield Earth" did and like many many others... Its stupid. Who says aliens will have psyche at all that even vaguely reminds what we have for a soul?
