Oh that's who you are. XD
Yes, I remember seeing you before briefly. I remember that one character that you had with the crossbow I think it was for an illustration class? I think that's the only class I remember having in the past.

I'm pretty sure I was also in life drawing with you... And at least one other class I can't think of at the moment.

Sorry I'm so anti-social at school. I'm so much more sociable online because I guess I feel more comfortable not having people hear or see me. I has low self esteem. T_T

That's okay, I completely understand. I'm the exact same way. I've been here for over 2 years and I've only made about 3 friends... Mostly because art students creep the living hell out of me, but also 'cuz friends are a distraction from my projects and homework. =\

And you shouldn't have low self esteem! You're really nice and your artwork is so good... And seriously, Anthrocon is a place where you can just let loose and be yourself. Nobody will judge you, and everybody is generally pretty accepting.

Okay. thanks. I just started making friends when I came to aip. I had 1 friend from grade school that still talks to me.

Sometimes it's better to just have a few really good, close friends.

sorry didn't mean to sound so cryptic lol what do you do in your free time. I know you don't have much free time because of your major but if you had it what do you do.

*Tries to look dignified as he sounds like a dumb ass*

"Well, I'm no scientist, but have you ever heard of entropy? Entropy requires that order falls to disorder, that structure turns to chaos with time. Evolution throws this OBSERVATION out the window. How unscientific.

This is a very generalized description of entropy, and is clearly a misuse of the second law of thermodynamics. Entropy doesn't have anything to say about biology, or history, or psychology, or many other fields. Instead, it deals solely with energy and heat flow. Likewise, evolution doesn't deal with thermodynamics, or physics, or astronomy. It is a theory of that explains the diversity of life as we see it today. But for the sake of argument, I will explain entropy in a few paragraphs:

Take a large amount of salt and mix it in boiling water. This will cause the salt to become disordered. However, let the water sit and cool for a while, and order will develop in the form of salt crystals. This same instance can be seen in the form of snowflakes and diamonds, and other precious stones – all highly ordered natural structures. Entropy is not the same as disorder.

Also, when calculating changes in entropy, you need to define it in such a way that there are no external inputs (for instance, an isolated system – a physical system that does not interact with its surroundings). Animals, plants, and bacteria are not isolated systems. All life takes in energy in order to grow, and does so by consuming other life.

------------------------------------
“…compared with it's precision…”

So what if the Universe is big? How do you think a Universe should look? This issue is dealt with by theoretical physics and cosmology, not evolution.

And what exactly do you mean by “ precise”? That it is designed for life? What about the vast amount of empty space and planets that are largely uninhabitable, especially by humans? Any architect this inefficient would be fired for incompetence.

If there's going to be any coherent universe at all, rather than nothing or a crazed chaotic flux, then specific things with specific characteristics need to exist. They are what they are, and they behave as such things do. We observe this regularity in nature and we label such observations as "laws."

Secondly, Laws don't "come from" anywhere. They're inherent in the existence of things. If a thing exists, then it is what it is, and it behaves accordingly. No "law-giver" is required.

------------------------------------
“None of these creatures… have any idea how any of their evolutionary changes took place”

That is because humans are the only creatures with that level of intellect and the capability of pondering about our ancestors. We have this ability thanks to the evolution of the cerebral cortex. Without it, we wouldn’t be able to develop the concept of deep time required to conceptualize evolution. Why would it matter to a frog whether or not it evolved? This argument is a non-issue.

--------------------------------------
“…compared with the massive gaps that would have to have been jumped over in order for biological processes in "more simple" organisms to become those found in "more complex" organisms compared to the fact that many of the supposedly "more simple" organisms are actually far more complicated than the "more complex" organisms that they supposedly evolved into.”

What massive gaps? The 1-2% gap between us and chimps? "Gaps" between current species are due to genetic divergence over billions of years. If you look at the fossil record, it is more a continuum than a series of leaps. You need to understand gradual change over time through small increments. Again, you are failing to acknowledge the massive amount of geological time it took for things to evolve.

Not to mention that Creationists (not all, but most) like to employ a fallacy here called ‘Moving the Goal Posts’. For instance, they will invoke the notion that there are too many gaps in the transition from dinosaurs to birds. In response, I can name Archaeopteryx, Microraptor, Epidendrosaurus, the recently discovered Epidexipteryx, other examples of dinosaurs with the developing characteristics of birds. However, Creationists will insist that the gaps between THOSE examples be filled in too, hence moving the goal post.

The truth is that we will never discover the fossils of every living thing that has ever walked on Earth, because fossilization requires massive amounts of time and very specific environmental conditions. However, absence of evidence is not evidence of absence. We have plenty of examples of reptile-to-bird, reptile-to-mammal, fish-to-tetrapod, and every other transition that you can think of.

------------------------------------
“Also, why is it that the huge systems that we observe around us are so similar to those microscopic ones that we still don't understand?”

The macroscopic world with the microscopic world are actually very different, and we can see this in physics. The laws of classical physics break down and are not valid when talking about quantum mechanics. So in order for small and huge systems to be the same, the "same laws" must be obeyed.

For example, take Heisenberg's uncertainty principle: we cannot know both exact momentum and exact position of an electron; the more certain we are of one variable, the more uncertain we are of the other. But if we compare the atom to the solar system, we can know exact momentum, position, etc. of a planet.

-------------------------------------
“It really looks like signature work-- that is, the same "architect" built them, but mere chance leaves no room for such similarities.”

The world really does look big and special, like it was made just for us, until you step back and look at the universe and realize how we were mistaken for so long. And mere chance? Mutations happen by chance, yes, but only the useful ones are CHOSEN through natural processes (predation, disease, inability to cope with temperature, etc.). We ALL have mutations, and natural selection is ongoing.

Two key terms that are essential in understanding Evolution:

Natural Selection - The process by which favorable genetic traits become more common in successive generations, and less favorable traits become less common. Here is an example:

Some Gazelles have slightly longer legs than other Gazelles, and are therefore faster. Faster Gazelles are more likely to escape predators, so their genes for longer legs have a greater chance of getting passed on to the next generation.

Genetic Mutation - a change in the gene sequence of an organism. This is the driving force behind natural selection. In example of the Gazelles, having slightly longer legs is linked to a genetic mutation. That mutation allows the faster Gazelles to be naturally selected and pass on that specific genes.

Again, to sum it up, while Mutations are random, Natural Selection itself it not a random process.

Lol, sorry for typing you a whole novel. I'm just passionate about this stuff. ^^
