To Collect Photographs Is To Collect The World. Work that photographers do is no generic exception to the usually shady commerce between art and truth. Photography is an elgiac art, a twilight art. Photographs cannot create a moral position but can reinforce one-- and can help build a nascent one. Photos that seem to invite the world invite packaging. Cameras go with family life. They go with every life. Photographs do not seem to be interpretations of the world...as much as pieces of it, miniature realities anyone can seem to acquire.
