Ah well, to get started it's always nice to have some inspiration to incorporate into your designs.
For example, many people use flowers or plants to create a character or palette.
Your not just limited to plants of course, though, you could use anything really.
However, it is also important to not be over-influenced through references and make it your own.
Having multiple reference images to go off of is really helpful than just one ;v;
Another easy inspiration to make designs is by themes. There are a bunch of theme/challenges that you can find on DA to use.
The most important thing though is to have fun and like what you're creating. If you're making something that is starting to become
something you don't like I would suggest to take a different approach on it or even start over on it possibly.
As for palettes I just use whatever colors I like tbh, although there are several sites that give you pre palettes or where it creates one for you though an image.
