youre very welcome
its great to see youre putting some thought into your training - a lot of people just pump iron without actually doing much
good luck in achieving whatever goals you set yourself - with a good structure you can get anywhere

I appreciate your comment on my "Ask him." post on the Forum.
I'm actually a Canadian army cadet. Went to Germany this summer with the ACE program. Met some guys from the Cornwall ACF. It was fun.

i remember meeting the canadians when i just joined as a little kid. i got the impression that those sent to the UK's summer camps we're the elites of the canadians, and their unit was pretty impressive
when youre in canada whats your standard issue rifle? i can't remember whether the canadians back then were using cadet GPs or something else.

SSYLC In reply to BoltCarrier [2005-09-25 18:06:09 +0000 UTC]
The canadians sent overseas are taken from different units, put through a precourse and then sent off.
Canada uses the C7 rifle, but cadets don't carry them around like you guys do. We only fire them occasionally. That's why it's such a treat for us to go to England, Wales or Scotland (our three British options) to do all the fun stuff in the dirt with rifles.

BoltCarrier In reply to SSYLC [2005-09-25 21:09:53 +0000 UTC]
aha well i thought they looked pleased to be over here. do you bring the c7s over here or do we provide you with GPs? stuff in the dirt is ace. personally out of the three i'd go to scotland or wales for the added challenge of mountainside battle. have you been to any of those?
im going off to a course soon with the royal engineers as part of my work experience. going to fire the GPMG, a belt fed MG, which is damn exciting
👍: 0 ⏩: 1
SSYLC In reply to BoltCarrier [2005-09-25 21:33:57 +0000 UTC]
Well, like I said, we hardly ever touch the C7's. When in Great Britan, the canadians differ only in their dress. This year was my first where I was eligible to go overseas, and I went to Germany where we did more adventure and sight seeing than military stuff. There are 7 or 8 people in my unit (all senior cadets of course) who have gone on one of the three courses I mentioned before (Outward Bound Scotland, Outward Bound Wales and Maple Leaf Exchange - England.)
In Germany, I fired on the MG3, but it was marksmanship practice, so only a 15 round belt. The P8 was fun though!

BoltCarrier In reply to SSYLC [2005-09-27 21:20:12 +0000 UTC]
15 round belts suck
to get the real feel of an MG you need at least enough to give you about 10 bursts and actually shred the target
isnt the P8 a pistol? we've never done pistol fire, only the stuff between single shot rifles and full blown MGs
👍: 0 ⏩: 1
SSYLC In reply to BoltCarrier [2005-09-29 20:18:25 +0000 UTC]
Yeah, the MG fire was kinda lame, but at least I can say I've fired it
The P8 is a pistol. Shooting drop targets with pistols is awesome. We also fired the G36 on a simulator. That was wicked-cool.

BoltCarrier In reply to SSYLC [2005-09-29 21:16:21 +0000 UTC]
we did loads of drop targets but with the standard rifles. trouble is it was so windy, judging the swing of the rounds was damn hard. even the marksmen like me and some of the others in my unit were only getting just above 60% hits.
the G36 is a kickass gun. was this simulator one of those with a big screen where four or more people lie in a row to take out the moving figures onscreen?
👍: 0 ⏩: 1
SSYLC In reply to BoltCarrier [2005-09-29 23:30:59 +0000 UTC]
Yeah. The screen was actually reflected with mirrors and stuff, so it was on a wall. We did a bunch of different scenarios too. Great fun!
👍: 0 ⏩: 1
BoltCarrier In reply to SSYLC [2005-09-30 11:06:15 +0000 UTC]
did you use the sims where they have an actual rifle with a laser fitted to the inside of the barrel and the gas parts operated by compressed air?
👍: 0 ⏩: 1
SSYLC In reply to BoltCarrier [2005-09-30 19:54:57 +0000 UTC]
Compressed air for sure. They had kick and all. They also had optical sights that were very easy to shoot with.
👍: 0 ⏩: 1
BoltCarrier In reply to SSYLC [2005-09-30 20:31:29 +0000 UTC]
are you talking about the scope type sights or the reflex optical sights (the ones which project a spot onto your field of vision)
the second type is ultra cool - ive never been lucky enough to use one
generally we use iron sights in training, they can take any amount of trashing. occasionally a few of us will get SUSATs and i even got a CWS night vision sight on my LSW once.
👍: 0 ⏩: 1
SSYLC In reply to BoltCarrier [2005-10-02 23:28:16 +0000 UTC]
We had scope type optical sights. If you're talking about what I think you're talking about for the reflex optical sights, I've seen one, and it WAS ultra cool. When you move the weapon around, you look at a little screen type of thing, and the red dot moves around on that. Sooooo sick.
Iron sights is all we ever fire with. The Canadian Forces use optical sights on the C7A1s, but cadets only fire on the C7. The Lee Enfield .22's and .303's obvously also have iron sights, and we fire on those once in a while.
👍: 0 ⏩: 1
BoltCarrier In reply to SSYLC [2005-10-03 19:56:06 +0000 UTC]
yeah thats the reflexive sight
it must have the most ultra field of view ever
we use iron sights loads as well, cos when youre under 16 you cant use the radioactive SUSATs. even after that theyre scared you'll break em.

i can see some of the appeal of the antony/johnsons song for the judges at least
if it had been a public vote the kaisers would have run away with it
maybe stuff to say on the new fanpage!

Faena In reply to BoltCarrier [2005-09-16 09:08:47 +0000 UTC]
They would have run away with it without a problem.. hehe.. aah well there must be something charming about the a/j song.. I mean.. you would think the judges know what they are judging..
Yeah!! lol.. this might fit there better
