Just an Act (Oikawa Tooru x Reader) ~Prologue~
PROLOGUE

A cold winter morning.
A young man and woman passed by each other silently on the street.
Strangers.
No more than strangers.
And yet, almost curiously, there was a spark. Undetectable, but within the depths of their hearts.
One with a gleaming crest on his chest, and the other with an apron in her bag.
A police officer and a waitress.
Two completely different people. Walking their own completely normal paths.
How had their paths come to cross? And what would become of them?
Hirose Touma and Takahashi Erina were never destined to fall in love.
But when their hearts led them together and they turned their backs on the their destinies, what suffering would be inevitably brought to them by the cruel clutches of fate?

“They want me to play the heroine?” you asked, your fingers hovering over the words as you read the contract.

CHAPTER 15 ~♡~•~✿~•~♡~It had been weeks since the incident. Nakasone had been apprehended and would be punished for his crimes. Damages from the explosion had been irreparable and Fate Cafe would be completely rebuilt and remodeled. It had taken time, but Erina had fully recovered from the incidents of that day. Now, she stood outside the police station, pulling her scarf down from her face and exhaling. It was cold. After Touma had saved her, his presence near her had been scarce. But today, Erina would finally see him again. She had been waiting for a long time. She was broken out of her thoughts as she heard the doors open. “Touma” Erina greeted, turning to him. “Erina” Touma said, descending the stairs, “how are you feeling?”“I’m fine. What about your injuries?”“I’m a cop. This is nothing to me.”Now, standing before him, Erina had no doubt that her decision was the right one. “Remember when we first met?” Erina asked, “you came to our cafe that day and I saved you from a date that childish girl. That day, didn’t it really feel like fate had drawn us together?”Touma chuckled. “I suppose it did feel that way.” “During the time I spent with you, I was happy” Erina continued, “I thought the world would never pull us apart when we were so perfect for each other. Hirose Touma and Takahashi Erina will always be together, is what I hoped.”“There was a time when I thought the same” Touma replied, “but our differences are too great. The woman I wish to love is one who will value my opinion and trust my word. And you aren’t someone who can do that for me.” “I also want a man who will believe in my strength and acknowledge my capabilities” Erina said, “I’m not weak and you never understood that part of me.”“Even though you weren’t weak, I wanted to protect you” Touma said, “I never thought it was wrong, but I offended you. And I’m sorry.”“I’m also sorry” Erina responded, “that I never tried to acknowledge how much you cared about my safety.” “Then, I’ll say it” Touma said, straightening and looking into Erina’s eyes, “I realized that I can’t love you anymore, Erina. This is where we part.”“Me too, Touma. I no longer feel the same way I did when I first met you” Erina said, “you were my first love. I’ll cherish our memories always.”“You were also my first love” Touma said, “but as they say, perhaps first love doesn’t come true.”“I really do believe that now” Erina said, “goodbye, Hirose Touma. Live well.” “Farewell, Takahashi Erina.” The two stood, staring at each other for a few moments. Erina turned away first, knowing that as the gentleman he was, Touma would wait to see her leave. She felt empty, strange. Yet, she didn’t feel upset at all. Perhaps her feelings for Touma had faded even before the incident occurred. Then Erina stopped, thinking about the man behind her, but not turning around. Well, it was to be expected. Erina continued walking, as if she had never known him. She wasn’t disappointed or regretful in the slightest. She had known from the very beginning...  That first love never lasts. ~♡~•~✿~•~♡~“(Last Name)-san” Takeda said, approaching you as you stood with Yachi and Shimizu, “I would like to thank you once again for cooperating with us for this project. And I give you and Oikawa-kun my wishes for your bright future.”“Thank you for inviting me to this project” you responded, “and as for Oikawa, that will be unnecessary.”“Ah, regardless, thank you again” Takeda said quickly, seeming a little taken aback by your cold demeanor. “Yachi, Shimizu. I’ll go first” you said. “R-right” Yachi said, watching you leave warily. It seemed everyone around you were thrown off by the disposal of your cheerful facade, not that it mattered to you what they thought. Soon, articles about your demeanor would circulate and everyone would know who you really were. People would try to bring you down, but you would face them without a smile and without laughter. Soon, the rumors of you ending your relationship with Oikawa would be confirmed and fans who had hated you would abhor you, demanding who you thought you were to leave their beloved actor. Soon, you would be back at the bottom, all alone, emotionless, and left in darkness. You stopped, feeling a presence before you. Without looking up, you stepped to the side to avoid him and went on your way. “(Name)-chan. Will you really end it like this?” Oikawa called after you, “do you...hate me? Will you not listen to what I have to say?”You turned to him, your face void of all emotion as you replied, “nothing you say matters to me.”Oikawa’s expression was stricken and he seemed again to be at a loss for words. “Please...just give me a chance.”“Can you tell me honestly that you didn’t ever once think of making Okumura-san jealous to make her come back?” you asked coldly, “to force her to regret her choice and return to you?”When Oikawa shut his eyes for a brief moment, you knew, once again, there was no need for him to answer your question.Whatever had been between you was over. And so long as you felt this betrayal, pain, and anger in your heart, it would stay that way. Your production was over and so was your time with him. And just as Takahashi Erina and Hirose Touma had parted, you turned away from him first. You took one step, then another. You continued walking as if you had never known him. Erina and Touma had been brought together and torn apart by the cruel string of fate until their story had finally ended. You and Oikawa were no different. Except you wouldn’t allow fate to control your story. As far as you were concerned, this was the end of your last chapter with him.
