I am so sorry to hear about your mom. I took comfort when my dad died in that he wasnt suffering anymore. Didnt make it hurt any less but started the healing process. Youre in my prayers.

on a side note, ~theinconspicuousHOLE and I are in the beginning stages of starting the Dallas Arts Militia . Right now we are just on Facebook, but hopefully this will get bigger and spread.
We've just had one meeting, and are due for another soon.

It's ok... not sure what's happening with DAM at the moment. The original idea that Nikki Rodriguez aka ~theinconspicuousHOLE had for DAM has already been done by other places here in DFW. She wants to create a space that offers low-cost art classes, provide a means for artists to display art in non-traditional venues, create a pool of artists capable of assisting other locations/artist for creation and/or set up of art. She also wanted DAM to be an advocate for all arts in Dallas... including theater, music and fine art. I advised her that we should try to get Artspace to open one of their communities here. Artspace is currently looking into spaces in the El Paso, TX area.
IF i'm able, I would like to start small and setup DAM similar to FORUM Arts & Culture in El Paso (which is run by Chris Bevins, a friend of mine). Their current set up is a central gallery for local shows that also has small studio spaces for working artists of different types, and a small community workshop... Tenants include a few painters, 2 architects that are starting out, some sculptors, and a band. From what I've found on the web, there are a few places here like it... 500x , The MAC , Dallas Contemporary ... But these seem to exist mostly for the collectors and not as an advocate for the artists.
I do know that I'm still an outsider looking in since I haven't produced any tangible art (other than the stuff I've posted on DeviantART) since we moved here from El Paso 10 1/2 years ago. You guys are the ones in the know, so to speak. Any thoughts?

Unfortunately no... I actually haven't been in the DFW area for most of the past decade and the last time I was here I wasn't doing any art at the time... I've only been back in the past year, so I know even less about the local art community... trying to figure it out myself.
