Well, maybe you can make a quick research on Wikipedia. Would be a nice start.
If it's just for experience, I really recommend you to come to Brazil. I can't do the same for Argentina since I've never been there. =/ I just know that it's a beautiful place.
I think that learning a new language is one real good thing to do in an exchange! Portuguese is not that hard to learn.

actually i don't really know what i'm looking for 
Brazil as a country just sounds awesome, the only doubt i have about going there is i'd have to learn portugese which isn't a very popular and useful language compared to spanish
