Hello Fuzzy Mutt, great work, I was just curious as to where you had gotten the peach pipe cleaner. Been seeking that for years now.

Thanks!

I bought a couple thousand sticks before Craft Canada closed down a few years ago, and now I don't see the colour anywhere. I don't know what I'm going to do when I run out. Good luck finding it!

Do you seel the Calvin & Hobbes pipe cleaner stuff? I'm VERY interested in getting it for my husband's birthday, if you do.Β

Sadly, Calvin and Hobbes are gone; I sold them a long time ago, and I don't make doubles of any of my creations.

500, Seriously?
I think I made two of these, one for the guys and one for the gals in my Cycling Club. I had two semi-circle bases of stainless and a couple strips of stainless and brass from a metal shop where I used to work, and that is all. (plus odds and ends of bike tubing) I don't have enough material to make 5 more, nevermind 500...

I think I might have finally thought of one maybe you haven't done? Of course I'm referring to the pipe cleaners. Wondered if you'd be willing to give it a try.

What have you got in mind? Is it bigger than a bread box? Animal, vegetable, or mineral? Are you going to make me guess?

MykieThomas In reply to BurndogDesign [2014-07-18 05:36:39 +0000 UTC]

Actually, it's Ichabod Crane. The Disney version.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

BurndogDesign In reply to MykieThomas [2014-07-18 06:45:59 +0000 UTC]

I have not made Ichabod.Β  When the movie Sleepy Hollow came out, I thought about making the Horseman emerging from the tree, then I thought about making the Headless Horseman chasing Ichabod from the Disney version, then I gave up because I got overwhelmed with so many great ideas.Β  I have a half-done Harley Quinn(from Batman) and a partially made Minion(which will look like a TV icon from the 60's if I ever finish...) in my workshop. And my Dad's 1970 Ford Falcon Station wagon that I started 2 years ago. Sheesh, I've got some catching up to do...
Thanks for putting more ideas into my head!

Pipe cleaners to sculpt...its brilliant, I've made some silly things with my siblings in the past but nothing like that...you make this an art form all on its own.

You charge $150? For each pipecleaner thing you have in your gallery? How many customers do you get normally?

(Just trying to get an idea, I've been selling mine, but its hard to judge just how much to charge for such an unusual art)

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

BurndogDesign In reply to pipedreamdragon [2011-08-24 04:22:12 +0000 UTC]

I'm still trying to get an idea myself on how much to charge...most of the ones in my Gallery were given out as Birthday presents or I bartered and traded for services and favours. I have not been making any money off them, not enough to survive, anyway.
I tell people that my sculptures now require 20-30 hours to make, so to sell them for the 10 or 20 bucks that people seem to value them at is utterly ridiculous(that's a buck per hour!), it feels like a slap in the face, really. People can't seem to wrap their brains(pun intended ) around the fact that this type of work is extremely tedious and frustrating and that they are not toys or action figures. You wouldn't believe how many people get angry with me and get uppity if they ask me to make something that I have already built and I tell them that I make one of kind and no more. They are a pain in the ass to make, I don't know why I torture myself so...
Whoever said "Do what you love and the money will soon follow" can kiss my arse...

pipedreamdragon In reply to BurndogDesign [2011-08-24 16:44:21 +0000 UTC]

Boy I can't tell you how true that is. It's a hard life for a pipecleaner artist T_T

I've made a good bit of money off mine and have been gradually upping my prices, now my usual sales are around $40-$50 - but it usually takes me a really long time to do them all.

I guess people don't judge the price on work- they don't think its as difficult as it is to make the things we do, and pipecleaners themselves are relatively cheap.

I enjoy making things out of pipecleaners, and its fun for me to do - so I guess I just base my price off of the size and complexity of what I'm selling rather than how long it takes me to make something.

I guess you kinda have to bargain : \

You are an EXTREMELY Talented artist, i think ur the best I have ever seen. Maybe you can look at some of my stuff and critique them? I mean there not as good as you, but I would like to see what you think. Learning from the master is the way to go!

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Kowardy In reply to Kowardy [2011-06-01 01:46:57 +0000 UTC]

Will these tutorials be over youtube? I am eager to see them! Do you think I should be working smaller too?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

BurndogDesign In reply to Kowardy [2011-06-01 04:00:48 +0000 UTC]

Not a video tutorial just yet, it will be written out and with pictures. I will email the lessons to people once they have put a buck or two into my PayPal account(I will work out those details after I get the first lesson done...)If it is still too confusing for people, I may eventually make a video (when I can afford a decent camera...)

Smaller or bigger, the same basic techniques apply, you still have to make everything proportional.
From the pictures of your creations, it looks like Kirby is around 10 inches in diameter?, and the other one is 7 or 8 inches across(based on a 'standard' 6mm(1/4")wide pipe cleaner(I often use 3mm as well, depending on what type of look I am going for).
