Did You Know? - BadgesBadges
Badges are little icons you can add to your profile. They once have been limited to staff members only, but since the release of the llama badges they received enough popularity and are now a common thing.
Llama and cake badges are available for everyone. For the latter you have to pay though (80 points for each piece).
Beside those there is also a bunch of badges that are given out on special occasions, like dA's birthday, contests, special promotions. These are often only available for a limited time. So once the time is up, you can't get them anymore.
When you are on the profile of someone you can see up to 5 badges at the top right.

When you hover over the badges on a profile page, you either get the "View Badges!" or the "View & Choose Badges!".
To view all badges someone has received so far or to manage your own and decide which ones should be a  Did You know - FAQFrequently Asked Questions
For nearly every website we use there is a FAQ section, that explains common questions and that can help you to understand and use that site more easily.
Here on dA the Help & FAQ section is rather complex, searchable and is also structured by topics to make it easier to you. You also can contact the Help Desk via tickets directly and report bugs, problem content or other things here.
To access the help page, you can either go there from the menu, from the footer or via help.deviantart.com directly.
 
When you are at the help page you have a general overview first. At the left side you can find the menu that will help you to navigate through all the content.

The right side is divided into four sub-sections.
Did You Know - Message CenterMessage Center
The message center(short MC) is your communication area for the deviantART world. Here you will be informed about the deviants and groups you watch, but also get notified about any interaction on your own account or deviations, such as new watchers, comments, critiques, faves and other things.
The navigation bar at the top already gives you an idea of how many and what kind of messages you can expect in your message center. It can be seen from all pages within deviantART (except Sta.sh).
The way it is displayed depends on whether you have the "Splinter Menu" or the "Unsplinter Menu". In my example it is the last.

By clicking on View All Messages or the overall count you will be forwarded to the overview page of your MC. If you click on a specific sub-menu, it will direct you to that area within your MC.

Points are dA's own currency, introduced in March 2010, that can be used in various ways within deviantART only.
The about page will give you a quick overview of what you can do with points already. There you will also find the rules for points - something worth to take a look at.
Before we go into details about what you can do with points, where you can get them etc, let's talk about their value.
80 = 1$
That's how it is. Not more, not less. So when someone is doing commissions for 100 , it doesn't mean that they want you to pay 100$. In fact you would only pay a little over 1$.
This is something you should always keep in mind. Especially when you think that someone charges too much for their work.
