Thinking-Silence In reply to Cantabrigian [2014-10-31 18:34:48 +0000 UTC]
I think the thought of monotone days, or even years, decades is indeed something tiring and depressing. Maybe people like you and me should join other cultures in which other values are held. Values which are more human, less capitalistic. Where friendship, help and common sense are more important than a big propaganda screen in the living room and a big car in front of the house. Capitalism does not offer perspective in a social sense. When I read Orwell (I finished reading the collection of his novels some weeks ago) I clearly see the depressing aspect of such a living. His atheistic perspective did not offer any light, any hope, any perspective to his life. Capitalism seems to create an emotional vacuum in our minds, hiding those human values, which make life precious and lovely. I am reading C.S. Lewis "Mere Christianity" at the moment. He writes that all human beings have a certain sense of justice, they are looking for purpose and sense in their lives, humans are not made to "just exist and die someday". This thought is depressing, but it also induces that we need a sense in life to make life worth living, which creates hope that there IS something to find, because we are programmed to look for it. (Why would any animal/human every think about its own sense of life, if evoution is true? Wouldn't it be completely natural to us NOT to have any purpose, but being perfectly happy with our life?)That's how I see it!

We have much in common Jan, and I can relate to your suggestion of an alternative way of life away from all the greed, anger and apathy in our lives, but I'm afraid I will never be convinced that theism is the way forward. I simply cannot believe in any god becauseΒ logic tells me they do not exist. I understand why peopleΒ choose to believeΒ and that's theirΒ prerogative, but I genuinely can't help seeing it as self delusion or a denial of reality. To deny evolution makes no sense to me because the evidence is justΒ too strong. I know many will argue against this and many more agree, and it's great that we all think differently, but my beliefs have always been evidence based and spiritualism is found lacking in this department. It is merely our ego that makes us believe we have some higher purpose and I don't have much of an ego. I seek the truth always. If someone proves me wrong I will accept it wholeheartedly.
