Happy 4th to you also! -- I'll be honest, the writing is a little dead in the water right now. I am kind of working on a fan fiction, which is going up on fanfiction.net, but as for my own stuff...need to get the motivation to see it through.

Doing camp for NaNo and so far ahead of the game! We'll see if that lasts the entire month though! I have to do a complete overhaul of what I have because I started writing without an outline and that spelled disaster for me.

Thank you so much! One Piece is a really interesting anime. It's about pirates with superpowers. It's also a never-ending anime...I'm like 500 episodes in and still not caught up with the animators, who are still not done!
Something that'll help your understanding of the story - the main source of superpowers in One Piece come from a type of fruit called a devil fruit. Once you eat it you have the power til you die. Hector got his wood power from eating the Wood Wood fruit. -- If someone who has eaten a devil fruit falls into the sea, they become paralyzed inasmuch as they are within the water. A similar thing happens if they come into contact with sea prism stone.
I've actually got like fourteen chapters of that written, but I'm posting it in installments on fanfiction.net to hopefully get more readers (and to motivate me to finish).

One thing I have always admired and envied about your writing is your ability to write live action so vividly that the reader can visualize it perfectly. I have just gotten to the scene where Hector and Helena have boarded Luffy's ship and she is attacking them, and I just had to pop over to say that before I continue reading! (Can't wait to read all fourteen!)
I like the idea of the fruit-inducing powers - any that make characters able to fly? I'd eat that one

Thank you so much! It was a bit different writing a fight scene for an anime like one piece, where they go around shouting their attacks and making up names for things. I'm glad you're able to follow it.
There are multiple powers that could cause one to fly. Zoan type devil fruits can transform you into an animal, so if you eat a bird type zoan you can sprout wings. (Zoans usually have three transformations. They can be human, part animal, and fully animal. so if you had a falcon fruit for instance, you could semi transform to have wings. -- fyi, the character Chopper is a reindeer who ate the Human Human [Zoan type] fruit, so he's part reindeer part human. Cute little guy. He's the ship's doctor).
There are other types you could use for flight as well as well. You'd have to be creative. The character Robin ate the Lotus Lotus Fruit (yes, they always say it twice), and she can sprout multiple arms, legs, eyes, whatever, from any nearby surface including other people. It's a bizarre devil fruit power, but she uses it quite effectively. eventually she figures out how to give herself wings by sprouting a bunch of arms out of her back.
Pretty sure if you at the, i-unno, wind wind fruit or something you could fly too.

I do remember you!! Yay! I love finding my elfwood buddies here on deviant art. And I didn't take down any of trench coats or my art. I think that when the webpage revamped it consolidated everyone's pages into one. I had gbowden as my art, gbowden2 as my writing, and gbowden3 as my fanart. It put everything under my fanart ID. Since i made the least amount of comments from that, I'm sure no one has links to my stuff anymore.
But I digress. I shall friend you forthwith!

Llama badges are a thing. ...That's pretty much it. The more you get, the more crazy your llama icon becomes (tuxedo llama, ninja llama...DeviantArt has a thing about llamas.) I've never been a llama badge collector, so I just tend to ignore them.
