I tend to be very apathetic and sarcastic in day to day life. However, I am passionate and introspective about a few things, and they reveal themselves in my "art." I mostly write poetry and short stories. I define "myself" in my own terms.
Any critique is appreciated (as long as it's honest).
Thank you.

life... life is good. wonderful, really. the awkward insecurity of freshman & sophomore year is gone, and though i've had to practically immerse myself in grief and death this year, i feel like i'm living. more so than i ever have before.

indeed, indeed! it's been insane, lately. summer's coming, my computer has crashed, so i'm stuck with a loaner, and therefore CANNOT UPDATE TWTMC. omg I HAVE TO RE-WRITE CHAPTER TWO. (because i am lazy and i don't back up my godforsaken files)
this makes me want to cry, because i left writers' block long enough to finish a chapter and then fate decides to stomp all over my dreams.
but, thankfully, I can continue "Vices" because i had emailed that to myself...
I've been writing essays and reading books and plays about insanity. it's... ironic and very fitting.
so. what about you?

I see that you speak/write several languages--do mind if I ask you a bit about your process? What was your first language? And when working in other languages do you try to work by that language's "ear" or do you find that your "ear" in other languages is rather affected by your native language's?

Carmacao In reply to mild-marrow [2010-05-20 21:46:09 +0000 UTC]
I am a native speaker/writer of english, and picked up the others through a variety of methods (school, self initiative, etc.) I've sort of had an affinity, of sorts, for languages.
And if I understand you correctly, in my experience, it's best to try to use the other language's "ear" when learning and using it; it's hard but you have to think, read and listen in the linguistic context . . . I'm not too fond of books or methods that attempt to directly translate everything and explain it in terms of english grammar, etc.
For me at least, "self-immersion" is best.

Oh I agree completely. Sorry I didn't explain myself well. What I mean to say is that, it seems that each language has it's own "ear." For example, in x language a certain sound or combination of sounds, sounds cute, or mean, or jarring, whereas, in another language those same sounds may be perceived differently. So what I was trying to ask was a) do you try to emulate the "ear" of the language in which you are writing? I was just curious.
