Iβve run into a peculiar problem:
Normally when I draw a face, I have references for every angle. However, for the monsters Iβm creating I have no references. Drawing them from different angles and with different expressions is becoming tedious.
Do you have any advice?

well what most professional studios do is have a 3D model of the characters. if you sculpt some out of clay it might help. if you can't sculpt then make a basic feature model. kinda like drawing cross hatches on an egg to represent the human head you can take a basic shape and then put some things to represent the basic positions and depth of the features. that will at least help you figure out where to tack the features on from any angle. i have some good modeling clay if you want some help with it.

I never considered sculpting before. My only fear is that I'll get obsessed with it and go too far.
I'll give it a shot. Thanks!

it helps to use a toothpick and exacto knife when sculpting. I'm still not all that great at it but as far as a perspective aid you really only need the basics.

I bet you could. The style focuses more on artistic backgrounds then on fluid animation.

I just can't animate effectively with my current tablet. it's great for single images and photoshopping but I need to be able to watch my pen tip to animate. I heard there's a thing now that you attache to a piece of paper and it tracks what you draw and translates it to the computer. they're probably expensive though.

No, you were mentioned on the Shrinemaiden forums. Heard you were a fellow Touhou fan so...

Catbanshee In reply to RokuGurin [2013-03-05 04:14:25 +0000 UTC]
AH. yeah. my hubby told me they're making a scroll for ZUN and were looking for artists. I'm really not a gamer but I like Touhou for all the work and design that was put into it. also for the music composition. I've tried to play one of the games but as usual I suck. I always ask people if I met them and didn't realize because sometimes I'll meet people at conventions or I'll kinda know them through my husbands but they'll have a user name I don't recognize. I'm always catbanshee everywhere.

Catbanshee In reply to spoiler911 [2012-06-23 23:36:22 +0000 UTC]
wow. that's pretty cool. since they're just straight stilts there's no need for welding tools. wood stilts, lots of foam, probably some support wire, and exterior materials.. I'd estimate maybe $300 if you get reasonable quality materials. you'd want to be especially pick about the stilts. I don't know how much medical stilts cost but if you made them you'd need to be picky about the wood and take a few precautions

the glasses are new (at least he never wore them casually) I never took note of any nail biting. but if he has a wolf T-shirt on half the time you see him I'm sure it's him XD
