Really i just wing everything myself but it depends if your buying the costume or makeing it if your buying look around first and find the best deal i alwas sujest Ebay for wigs and Aliexpress for cosplay's (but either can work for either thing). If you are makeing the costumes/ props get lots of refrence images resech the charecter and try to find the best fabric/materical deals.
For photos (unless your just messing about on yoru phone in cosplay) if it is a proper shoot reserch the charecter and practice mimmiking there body language and facial expressions.
Really as long as you are having fun then your doing it right. also the university of youtube is a god send if you find yourself faceing a brick wall.
