I finished the picture of Riku [link] though I drew it in memory of my quail Swish, who died recently. I hope you don't mind, he looks just like Riku (though I know most silver king quail do :D (Big Grin) )

You have a great gallery here! I especially like the quail photos, as a bit of a quail breeder hobbiest myself, I have great respect for how you've bred and reared such beautiful birds :) (Smile) I couldn't resist favouriting so many of them :D (Big Grin)

Thank you very much for your lovely comment! Great to see another quail breeder hobbiest! :) (Smile) Quails are the best birds, they can be troublesome but I wouldn't be without them.

Not a problem :) (Smile) And you're welcome. I agree, they are such cute little things (a bit mental sometimes though :P (Lick) ). My mum won't let me hatch any more king quail, but hopefully I can convince her to let me try raising some Jap quail, I hear they are great birds. Have you had any experience with Jap quail?

I haven't personally had any experience with them, but I've heard some good things. :) (Smile) When I get a very large aviary (some day, sigh) I plan to get some California quails.

Gyah! Your quails are so cute. I wanted a button quail, but I can't find a breeder in my area... and my cockatiels aren't so friendly....
Do you breed birds for a living?

Hmm, that's interesting, I know here they are common at bird breeders' and pet shops. They are really great if you can find them. :D (Big Grin) But you can't tame them unless you hand rear them.

While my birds breed on occasion, I'm not a breeder and have never sold any of my birds (I can't give them up, lol).

wow. I saw I could order eggs online, but I have minimal rearing experience; my cockatiels had 3 babies, but the parents took care of 'em. Do I need special equipment or something- I live in hawaii, so it never gets colder than 70 degrees, really. Maybe 60 at night.

I've never reared quails myself (none of mine are tame), but you need an incubator for hatching the chicks, and a brooder to keep them warm when they are young.

They are born with eyes open and able to eat by themselves from day one, so you just need to provide the right food and water. :) (Smile) And also get them use to you from an early age.

Hello, in my search for button quail images I found you! I decided to watch you because of all your lovely birdies.
I'm getting lovebirds in a year, but I'm very fond of all sorts of small birds (button quail included), and I'm very curious about zebra finches.

Gorgeous birds! I used to keep king quails, theyre awesome little guys to watch, especially with their chicks!

I think someone else has commented on her looking like a flat coated retriever as well... she's a german shepherd X border collie.

in high school i always got teased and mocked of how i loved birds so much, but thank god thats over, cause iv met so many wonderful people who love birds just as much as i do! its amazing how immature some people can be when it comes to animals.

Really? o__o I guess some people are quite ignorant about how great birds can be as pets. I've had people tell me that they think birds are "boring and just for looking at". Their loss. =P (Razz)
