Ha ha ha, that was sweet of him.
Well, never hurt to try and give you any. Do you have anything in mind, specifically?

well I'm disreguarding the line art for a certain coloring style (but if I wanted to) how could I improve on this? [link] (how did you help him on his lineart specifically?

I basically just helped him get accustomed to a digital art program called Paint Tool Sai, which is known for having brushes for smooth lineart.
However, if you want to do traditional lineart, here is what I suggest:
Materials:
Blue, green, or red pencil. Erasable would be best. I use correctional red colored pencil at the moment, works fine.
Pure black ink, like India ink + quills, or Copic, Neopiko, and Micron pens. Ballpoint doesn't work well because of the various shades you can get it. Ballpoint is better suited for grayscale.
1.) Sketch with a blue, green, or red pencil.
2.) Outline slowly and EXACTLY the way you want it. No mistakes whatsoever. You may want to scan in your sketch and make multiple print copies of it.
3.) After having your completed lineart on the sketch, scan it in and make sure it's on 1 bit, black and white (looks like you did that)
4.) Adjust the midtones so there aren't many breaks in between pixels, otherwise, doing clean cartoon coloring would be a hassle. But if you prefer a painted look, than this is not really necessary.
5.) Make sure you scan on the a color channel of the color you chose to sketch with. This will eliminate any traces of that color, hence why I recommended blue, green, or red.
6.) Scan at a high resolution of 600-1200 dpi.
You should have a fairly large file, but you'll notice it's very smooth. You should get something like this: [link] This is zoomed out a couple times, so, you don't see the pixels you normally would when it's blown up (excuse the fail art, I suck, lol). If you resize it even half way, you'll get the smooth lines.
There are numerous ways to do lineart though. It's up to you in which way though. You can trace your sketch in an art program with a graphics tablet, or use bezier curves with vector illustration programs, kind of like the pen tool. You can even trace outlines if you need to on the computer. It's up to you, really.

Paint Tool Sai is completely safe. ^^ You do have to pay for it though. You can purchase it here. ^^ [link] You pay, they give you a license number, you download the program off the site and place the license number into a folder. Enjoy!

And you should be. <3 I am undeserving for such a sweet reply back.
I'm sorry I didn't give you a comment, but I haven't been very active here in ages, and I don't like to give comments on deviations without going into depth, but~.
I put your images into the inspiration folder because I love how flexible and full of character your people, in this case, women, are in structure and contours. I draw very stiffly, but I find your pieces great because despite the great structure, it has a nice flow that makes the images appealing aesthetically.
Also, the colors from that one picture where your avatar comes from are so very dusky and warm, and maybe this is just the atmospheric loving part me, but images in that coloring style (maybe look would be a better coin to toss...) strike a lot of emotion, even if the subject matter may be plain, and just overall wholesome.
So, please continue with your lovely artwork. c: You may be one artist, but you influence many, even if you don't know it. ;D

Hey, no problem, really loved the atmosphere and variety of colors you used for the image. It was quite lovely.
I have a couple of software questions, if you don't mind me asking, since I frequent the forum and I saw that you are from Japan, so, I thought I could inquire. If you don't wish to answer, that is fine, I understand if you are busy.
I noticed that on the original Celsys website that there are three versions of Comicworks listed, but SmithMicro only translated two of them: EX and Debut. Was there always a Comicworks Pro version even before eFrontier had acquired it and SmithMicro just translated two of them like eFrontier or did SmithMicro just completely glaze over this other version of the 4th generation software? If it really is a third version, can you give me a comparison of what the differences are between EX, Debut, and the Pro version?
Also, do you know where I can buy Comicworks MAX 2? A long time ago, Akadot Retail used to have it before only supplying the English translation of the older one. So, I was curious, if there was a way I could have it shipped to the US, even if the program itself is in Japanese, since it doesn't look like a translation of it is coming up anytime soon. I really want this software for its tones mainly, but I really love drawing in it and trying the trial, I would like to purchase.
Although, if you HAVE heard any whispers of an English translation of Illust Studio, Comicworks Pro, new versions of Retas!Pro Studio, and of course, Comicworks MAX 2, please drop me a line, if it's not too much trouble, of course.
Thank you so SO much in advanced! And please keep up the great work, I love the effects you put on your pictures~.

Oh no no, I wouldn't do that, ahaha. Don't you worry. xD
Ah, no, that's all I wanted to ask. Overall, I just wanted to know more information on what the differences was between the three Comicwork versions (EX, Pro, and Debut) and how to acquire Comicworks 2 Max. Thanks anyway for your help! ^-^

Hmmm... I don't know too much about Comic Works but Comic Studio. One is from Deleter and another one is from Celysis so it's completely different.
As for Comic Studio, which I am assuming you're asking about, is an original form of MangaStudio. I'm sure MangaStudio Ex is cheaper than ComicStudio Ex since the original version costs around 400 something bucks while Manga Studio costs 200 something bucks. Pro only exists in Comic Studio and I guess MangaSTudio took away that and just made it debut and Ex since it was more obvious in version 3 but very similar in 4.
The Debut version has very basic features so it just is enough to draw, add few dialogues, and basic tones. It's recommended for people who are just trying out at the beginning, but I don't recommend getting that since it lacks a considerable amount of functions.
Pro is recommended for beginner-advanced level. It has most tones and functions and it considerably improved since version 3 so I recommend that for the new user.It can incoroporate 3D CG from Shade software as well as have bubble functions, tones, and etc.
However, Ex is better for those who are serious about creating comics or manga. I think Manga Studio has Comic Studio Ex features already. It allows you to incorporate 3D in addition to rendering it into 2D. It allows you to change shapes of tones unlike Pro. So, it won't really look flat on curved surface.
If you are creating BW manga or comic, I really recommend getting it. However, if you're into a very simple page comics, SAI or Photoshop are fine- though many functions are limited.
If you are into colored comics, I suggest you get Comic Studio/Manga Studio and color it in another software or just do it from scratch on piece of paper, scan and ink in Photoshop and color. However, the image size is considerably large in Photoshop.
The new software that just came out this year by Celsys- the same company that made Comic Studio is Illuststudio. The English version hasn't come out yet so it's not yet available internationally. However, I noticed that someone in DA translated tools himself so you could use one of those plug-in he made in order to use the trial and see if you like it.
IllustStudio can be downloaded (I think the server is down for the next 6 hours for maintenance but):
[link]
and the handmade patch which will make is:
[link]
IllustStudio is highly compatible with ComicStudio so it's more recommended than SAI. However, it's weak on having fewer BW tones so not recommended if you're trying to create comics.
Comic Studio and IllustStudio has materials that come out every week (tones, brushes and etc.) here:
[link]
The sites are all in Japanese.
I recommend that compared to ComicWorks- which a few people use due to a cheap price, but don't recommend it if you want to create comics/manga in a long run. They haven't produced new softwares for that in five years so they might be planning to close down that software since Comic Studio outbeat them.
I'm not sure about other softwares unfortunately. Sorry about that.

No problem. <333 I'm surprised I didn't earlier, dearest! I am in full support of Volpenera studios, afterall! And I adore her design, naturally. Love how the violet reflects just slightly on her silver pelt. She has a very mysterious, but warm, serious glow.
