You really like The Book of Mormon? Mein Kampf? Lady Chatterly's Lover?

I struggled a bit, trying to find a common theme to these books..Β did I say I liked them at some point?Β where they something you thought I might like given something I said, if so, what? Β Oh..Β I see.
Interests: Favorite books: [ALL OF THEM] Β Β
So I'm guessing you're proposing an extreme case.Β What would I do with copies of these three books;Β As I haven't read any of them.
The Book of Mormon:Β Hmm. I feel a small sense of guilt at not having read this as I was baptized into the LDS at a very young age...Β It would probably go on the shelf, into a very small religious section, next to my 'Principailia Discordia' and 'The Tao of Horses'.Β Will use it to decode most of the plots in Orsen Scott Card's novels.Β
Mein Kampf: if it's in the original German, flog it to a rare book dealer.Β An english translation/reprint would get read, written in, mocked, and possibly used in some satirical performance art.Β
Lady Chatterly's Lover:Β Β ...Β I'm not very familiar with this one.Β Read, or try to read.. Β most Breakthough works are only valid in context to their time.Β would probably shelf it with mystery, as I have very little non-science fiction fiction, and no pornographic novels at all.

Hi Sam,
not sure if you saw this [link] I picked it up on ebay after our discussion a few months ago.

It is beautiful. [sigh]
I successfully resisted biding on the switcher, for I no longer have any track or transformers.. (all stolen ) Or any space left after the latest move. I still, like many in this house, have box piles in the hall and in my room, which, BTW, looks like someone camping out in a electronic surplus warehouse..
If/When I get the XY motion heads set up to do 3D printing and miniCNC milling I might reconsider my self imposed ban.
Until then I'll enjoy watching you..
the 4-8-4 is also elegant.. My vote is to keep it the way it is..

I am thinking of replacing the three pole motor with a five-pole to improve its slow speed performance, although the motor would cost more than the loco did, but I think it would be worth it. I understand what you mean, I left my layout behind when we sold or house, and haven't built a replacement yet. I might suggest keeping an eye out for a Kato starter set on eBay, I got mine for $60 with shipping and it included a full loop of track along with a locomotive and a few cars. It's not a layout, but my son and I have set it up on the dining room table on a couple of occasions to get our fix. He's still a bit young and prefers his wooden Thomas toys, but I still have hope to make a model railroader out of him yet!
3D printing, now there is a noble pursuit! I'd love to get into that but I have too many interests as it is and can't really afford to add any more. If you do get it going, perhaps you might want to try your hand at a 1:160 scale Royal Hudson body?
I agree with you, it looks too good to cut up, and it runs amazingly well. I bought it because, at US$116 plus $20 shipping from Japan, it was a great deal, but I didn't look closely at the wheels. As is, it looks a lot like a shortened UP 8444, so I may just decorate it for a fictitious tourist line and not mention that it is a Japanese prototype.

> not a layout, but my son and I have set it up on the dining room table on a couple of occasions to get our fix.
heh heh.. My favorite was this 10' long 2' wide shelf I had in one bedroom (about age 12 for me). loose track and two sets of double-nine dominoes that I made stations and tunnels out of. The little 0-6-0 was the best as it wouldn't pull the track apart.. I didn't learn the trick of using masking tape on the underside until later.
> If you do get it going, perhaps you might want to try your hand at a 1:160 scale Royal Hudson body?
Yipe! err, ah.. Well the X-Y motion units that I am re-purposing are fairly fine resolution. My homemade injector head.. well, isn't.
I do hope to make something less crude, but that will have to wait until I can get the metal lathe out of storage and set up.. Tripling the time it SHOULD take me to do that, no further health issues, and assuming I get a workspace, I get 18 months before I'll be ready to try..
I'll send you a note when?
Above time also includes learning curve on CAD/CAM software.. And making the G-Code interface.

I'm not in a rush My buddy Marc had a full sized one in his shop when it burned down, but it never even occurred to me to use it for model railroading! You can't really see it in this pic [link] but it was over on the left behind the tow truck. It weighed several tons and he used it to make robotic components.
