Would you be interested in gig illustrating someone else's monsters? I'm nearing the end of writing my sci-horror RPG and the beginning of figuring out how to publish/promote it. Your style would work well, since my game has a deep sea flavor to it.

I let the pen move freely, and then keep an open mind. What's missing? Why doesn't it look interesting enough? What else can I try? Let's draw some weird lines over here and see what happens? How about if I erase this entire section? What if its head was over on this side instead? ... etc.Β

I was wondering how you came up with your creature concepts? I wanted to try and make the ones I come up with into drawings, but I never really get it right, and wanted some advice. It'd be really helpful if you told me how you go about creating yours, not in a drawing set way, but like, how you decide a pose for a creature, what type of shading, body type, etc.Β

I usually let the pen decide. By that I mean that I'm usually void of ideas, and just move the pen around in a dynamic way, trying to make dramatic or interesting lines. The mess that comes out of it suggests things for me, which my mind picks up on. If there is no brief, I normally do the same thing with body type/pose. I don't decide beforehand but let the sketching solve things for me. It's like thinking through the pen. It takes some practice, but anyone can do it. Relax the mind, and squint the eyes a little. Shading and light is different. I base those upon the situation at hand. What kind of light will bring out the most of the form, or what kind of light do I feel like applying. Thanks!

Thank you for replying. I was going to create my own creature/monster/etc. concepts for some of my own projects, and I had some ideas but no idea on how to put them on paper. People/humanoid species are the easiest things for me to draw.
