I'm making my first crossplay! ... technically it's my first *real* cosplay as well, but yeah. XD I'm going to be Kisuke Urahara from Bleach, and I'm making his:
- Jacket (en process, silk)
- Shirt & Pants combo (getting supplies tomorrow, suede)
- Hat (omg gonna be so fun)
- Fan (getting supplies tomorrow hopefully!)
- Geta (these are like traditional Japanese sandals... gonna get free leather from a friend! ^^)
- Benihime (Benihime's his sword... she's gonna be craaaaazy to make, I ain't attempting her til after finals are over!)
- Cane (I might or might not make the cane.... Benihime slides inside of it. I'll see how Benihime turns out first.)
- Soul Candy (I'm gonna modify a pez dispenser to work with cadbury eggs or something and toss a rubber duckie's head on top. XD)
Anyways..... it's really intensive and AWESOME because I'm basically designing everything from scratch. The only things I'm not making *completely* from scratch are Benihime (half using a tutorial and various other stuff I've found around in my research stages) and the Soul Candy (.... pez dispenser, cadbury eggs, rubber duckie.) but it's still really awesome and gonna be super high quality. XD I'm also going through the debate of the wig & compression shirt and all that jazz. I'll tackle that more thoroughly later, though. In the meantime, I'm excited with the stages that I'm at (working on the jacket, getting supplies for the shirt and pants, working on the fan). ^^

Oh my lksadjf~klsdjfljsdçlfjsjkfsjdfjsdjfjfldsa you're like in a huge huge project I would never imagine that you would be so busy like this!!!!!
but you're going to make this cosplay to show it where? I mean, you're not going to just make it to be happy about it?
I don't know how to express myself çlsdkf~sad I hope you understand what I am trying to say D:

CloudMonsta In reply to aruanahansel [2011-04-27 04:56:37 +0000 UTC]
No, I think I know what you're trying to say... You're asking me if I'm going to show the cosplay here on DA and also if I have another reason for it, no? At least, that's what I'm getting. ^^
Yeeeeeeeeah the project actually seems kinda huge in retrospective... but it's SO WORTH IT. I'm going to anime expo next year (and possibly comic con!) so I want to have the best high quality cosplay I can make. By that point, I might have made another cosplay, and then I will have the dilemma of choosing which to use! But for now, I am concentrating on my Kisuke Urahara one, and it is coming along.... so far... really amazing and epicly. Even though I've only gone through part of the jacket. XD

everything so precisely planned, that's so nice!!!!
well I wish you good luck with your work!!!

Haha, thanks! Yeah.... I want to give myself PLENTY of time. XD And I'm very.... OCD about what I do and how I do it and everything. Sooooo yeah that's why it's all just so and precise.

ocd?
but to make those costumes takes such a long time D

CloudMonsta In reply to aruanahansel [2011-04-27 05:47:48 +0000 UTC]
I'm not sure exactly how long it will take - the geta (wooden and leather sandals) and the fan (vellum and bamboo) and the sword (wood and various other materials) I believe will take the longest, especially Benihime. But the clothes (jacket and shirt) will take longer because I'm designing the pattern and all from scratch, the pants will take awhile because I haven't followed an actual pattern in ages XD and the hat a bit because... well.... it's a hat. I've never made a hat before. ^^ Kinda excited, to tell the truth. So basically... I'm just playing it safe. Also: I really wanted to do this. I'm so pumped. XD

aruanahansel In reply to CloudMonsta [2011-04-27 05:56:14 +0000 UTC]
but have you ever done something like that before? I mean, drawing the clothes, and sewing everything and all that?
👍: 0 ⏩: 1
CloudMonsta In reply to aruanahansel [2011-04-27 06:00:23 +0000 UTC]
Well, I've sewn from patterns all sorts before. I've just never designed it all myself... but I know the basics of how patterns work and what they're supposed to look like, etc. etc. So so far it's going ok.

aruanahansel In reply to CloudMonsta [2011-04-27 06:16:21 +0000 UTC]
But where you learned that? by yourself?
👍: 0 ⏩: 1
CloudMonsta In reply to aruanahansel [2011-04-27 06:26:26 +0000 UTC]
For about two or three years my mum and I took a sewing class at the local Joann's fabric store. I was supposed to be way too young to take the class, but they let me anyways. And... well, I basically just learned how to follow a pattern. And how to use the machine, basics like that. Now I know plenty to create my own stuff - what types of fabrics would be good, though I can't necessarily tell you why, it's sort of intuitive... how pieces should drape and place together, lengths and general yardage you might need... that kinda stuff.

CloudMonsta In reply to aruanahansel [2011-04-27 06:38:13 +0000 UTC]
Yup! I can't afford to buy clothes all the time, or even half the time, so I usually live off of hand-me-downs or made-them-myself clothes. Very few of my clothes are bought new.

To live off of mostly hand-me-downs and some make-them-myself clothes? Heh, well, I suppose so! *yay hugs!* Last piece of clothing I bought (not including my replacement and much needed skater shoes) was probably..... a replacement for my light jacket? It finally died, after a few years. >> So I spent maybe $10 abouts and got a new one. Didn't have time to make one at the time, haha. And I've now got another night light jacket as a hand me down just the other day! Yaaaaaaay working with short people! <3

Haha, yeah, I'm a bit of a penny pincher... Until it comes to books or projects. Books, I just have no resistance to. At all. Ever. And projects I just want it all to be nice, high end quality stuff I produce. ^^ Soooo otherwise I usually don't spend money.
By the way, the Mary Kay party went great! I even got myself a new acne care set thingy, so we'll see if it works. =] It was great just to see Angie again, too.
In other news... I still haven't finished the jacket, but I'm closer! I just need to set the sleeves, seam the sides, and hem it! ^.^ I finished two time consuming bits yesterday, the diamonds along the bottom and the trim along the inside edge. ^^

CloudMonsta In reply to aruanahansel [2011-05-02 04:22:53 +0000 UTC]
Jostein Gaarder? No, I haven't. What sort of books does he (?) write?
Haha, I know I don't need to hurry and have plenty of time - I just wish I were more productive sometimes. =]
In other news, I wore my pleated black dress to the evening church meeting (fireside) tonight, and a guy I know asked "Who are you mourning, Josephina?" of course I responded with an articulate "huh?" and he pointed out my only wearing black and white. After a moment of thought, I said "nuh-uh! Purple!" and shook my purple jeweled bracelets at him. XD I must have seemed like such a child... But it was still kinda funny, and since I sorta know him, it's chill. Haha.
