Howdy there.
Glad to see you made the leap of faith and are getting your work out there. I wasn't too keen on the website stuff either to be honest I doubted my ability and style etc and still kinda do but its the way to go and get yourself out there.
Having said that I still need to make a better blog/website and facebook page etc laughs,

Why not make a blog too? Word press or blogspot or tumblr etc.
Its quite fun and a cool way for clients to see your work.

If ya need any help with DA just shout it too me a while to get it all right but then I am blond laughs.

I was doubtful too, although my reason was more for 'is anyone really going to be interested in what I'm chatting about and... what the hell do I write hahahaha I've never been good with that.
I decided to join in the hopes of getting some of my work out there, you never know who's looking.It was an amazing feeling when people put some of your work under their favourites, especially when you doubt your own skill and style.

How is your freelancing going? I find it really hard to get any work really, I'm not really a strong self marketing type.

I'm finding it tough lately too.
Explainer videos seem to be the way to go but they can be very generic and made for a large commercial market so not much room for expression or artistic indulgence.

I've been emailing lots of SA bands hoping for some interest in potential animated music videos.

Looking at it illustration/design seems a much more financially viable option as a career. Have you looked at: [link]
Sparx Media are an ad agency in Cape Town, I haven't got my work on there website yet but they could be an option.

There's also kickstarter which is an option I'm thinking of trying to get something going on there hopefully one day.

Thanks for the links. I'm studying Multimedia (which is like Graphic Design, only digital, not print) and options of employment are much higher than doing animation only. Still, doing something as creative as animation and illustration is a hard dream to give up on.

I hope you get some feedback from the SA bands. It's a really cool idea you have, so I hope you have the opportunity to execute it

Never lose your love for animation and illustration even if you might end up doing an off shoot of it like Multimedia etc its good to be employed and have an income laughs its not cool being in a rat race every month scrambling for money for rent.

At the end of the day at home you always have your own time to draw and basically be yourself and be your own boss and work on your own work and no one telling you what or how to do it.

Where ya studying multimedia by the way?
I studied a 2 year animation course at city varsity.
The CG technical stuff killed me in second year.

Saw your willow in the wayward character designs on your blog you should put them up here too.
I dig the old dude and the granny the most.
It might sound super weird but I enjoy drawing old people there's always lots of character, quirks and wrinkles laughs.

I'm studying at Tshwane University of Technology for my degree (I already have my diploma in Multimedia). May I ask what that animation course was like besides the crazy technical stuff? Was it a good course? Part of Multimedia is 3D animation but as there is not enough time to really get into it, all I have to show for it is one animation (fully rigged) and a 3D house design. So I'd like to do a extra course on it. I bought that "Animator's Survival Kit" book which is really good, doesn't matter which animation format you like to use.

I will upload the Willow characters on dA, I just need to pretty them up because I'm going to use them as advertising for voice actors

I completely understand what you mean by drawing old people! I loved drawing Mr Times the most

The course was cool I would have liked to have done more traditional animation, but with the amount of information readily available on the internet nowadays its honestly not worth forking out more money or getting a student loan like I had to, to get the diploma.

Not sure about 3D animation, there is the animation school here in Cape Town. I'm not sure how good the City Varsity course is anymore as I graduated a while back.

I'm busy with a deal to make a 2D Animated film. I'v got financers interested and they asked me to create a small teazer. I began November and the deadline is February. I will link it to you when I'm done and when I get the money to start, I would like you to come and work for me.
