I have been looking at all of your amazing jewelry, and I see one thing that stands out the most. How do you take such good photos of your pieces? My jewelry never photographs well.

Thank you!
I use a DSLR with a light tent. I just set up the shot, making sure to avoid my own reflection (or trying) and I use pieces of white paper to direct the light evenly over the piece. Use a long exposure with a tripod. I avoid macros, as they will kill your depth of field. Mostly, I use a magnifier with a 50mm.
However, I have seen really good pictures made with iPhones and point-and-shoots. The thing that makes a great picture is lighting. IMO.
Opals are a bugger though. any opal that I have pictured is 10x's better in person than the picture.

Thank you so much for the detailed reply. I don't have such a good camera as that, but I will see what I can do with lighting. That seems to be the best option for me.
And I fully agree, an opal's fire is impossible to catch on camera.

Quick question: can you forge me a white gold ring for a male sized finger with deep amethyst jewel stone in the middle?

I love your family dynamic and your work. I have a little girl who's just learned to run, and I have visions of her harassing me until I teach her how to hold a torch and make her own art to wear.
Your pieces are spectacular examples of composition, color, and creativity, and I can't tell you how inspiring they are to see.

Thanks you,
Mine didn't exactly beg me. I had to coerce just as my dad did. But, at this age, they spend more time on homework than at the bench. I wonder sometimes if they may be stretching out the homework to keep me from making them make chain

love your jewelry. it's artists like you that make me obsess over learning new techniques!

obsessing is cool, but I think of it more as a form of communion with the Creator by becoming a creator. The big creative vibe,

actually that's a great way to put it I've always loved playing with rocks, like it was a way to get closer to those natural divine energies and really feel part of it, and when I started making jewelry it just got better.

I'm glad I saw your jewelry tag, I was worried that flowers had replaced rocketfish.
(I'm loving them)
Thank-you for the links. I don't have a good book to read at the moment and no time for the library. They'll come in handy this week.

Thanks,
I am being asked to do more of these floral pieces than rocketfishes lately. Not so much changing, as evolving
