Thanks I feel I have a lot to improve on though, espcially when seeing your art. I've never had a place with Internet access and decent programs though (I'm currently homeless and staying a friends sofa - the friend has Internet and CS3, which is why I'm temporarily back in GFA on AL), but I should be getting a place where I can get a decent GFX setup soon so hopefully I can practise lots. I really want to buy a decent tablet and do more traditional-based digital art.

You should come back to AL. Most of the good GFXers (i.e. Soma, Corvus and yourself etc.) have all gone now, and from what I've seen, all the new 'good' GFXers there at the moment do nothing but basic anime signatures. They make a basic background, put a C4D on an overlay layer, paste a random anime render over it and blend it in with some fancy downloaded brushes. It takes no skill or effort at all, and it annoys me that everyone thinks they're a genius for it. Heartless if probably one of the best GFXers around now and she got virtually no recognition at the last AL awards. You obviously have actual skill, so you should come back and raise the bar. Fuck it if people don't like you C&C, if they don't want to improve themselves then they can go fuck themselves

Yeah GFX needs time , patience and the right peace of mind to make something beautiful.
I got a tablet recently and still finding a way to master it by making "cherry blossoms" for a B5 sized piece . Hopefully in 2 months or so i'll get the hang of it. Thats the main reason I left AL. Since like you said , all AL emphasizes is making sigs and avatars based on anime. And worst , the themes they put up in the challenges eventually get corrupted with anime nonetheless. And whats more worst than that , is everybody there has started C4D whoring. seriously , thats not GFX. C4D's are easy to make anything shiny and awesome once put on lighten or overlay mode. Brushwork too like you said are mostly from DA Theres so much you can actually do with the basic and dry media brushes from Photoshop itself , but they just rely too much on external stocks and media and call it their own >.> Before I left , i even found out most of them werent even "making" a BG. Just using some scenery or stock image from DA or sxcu or some other stock photo site and adding effects and stuff on it to make it look different . All this was the main reason I left AL , coz i found myself trying to use stocks for BG and C4d's and then when i realized i was being lazy , i decided to CnC ppl regarding the same. Obviously they didnt like me So yeah i left , since people started becoming biased with my skill being inferior than the other contestant's "shiney" features , since they felt that was more important

Trust me , the only reason I waited for a year and modded the section was somehow i could get Soma , Corvus , Zelos , Shane(Xzile i think while you were around) , You , Kurisu , Heartless to start posting again. Yeah I kinda knew everybody once i started becoming better at GFX , but when I got good , no one was around to be active at the same time Though Soma and Corvus always appreciated my work , I never could get them to get active again. Zelos & Shane still sometimes wander about in AL since we keep practicing for challenges , but now that im not there , dont think either of them will come back .

Heartless came back though which is good since she's awesome at CGing. Im trying to practice the same at her level , but thats gonna take sometime. But GFX wise I think she's changed her style to something more common than her original style which was more artistic than shiny But yeah even then , she's the best GFa has got. Others just rely too much on tutes , brushes , C4D's to make their stuff come out than the basics like flow , lighting and stuff. Lol most of the ppl there dont even know the proper definition of the terms nowadays (the reason i got a bit irritated at out battle). Lol I knew your piece was more subtle than mine hence the reaosn i made it fiery like that , but I didnt understand why the voters wnated me to make something exactly like you ? Whats the point of a battle then >.> Things like this dont make me wanna come back there.

Im only finding good challenges to improve myself and apparently the current level of GFA doesnt provide that , unless you'll be posting some. If you do , i'll make sure to be there.

I even found some pure GFX & Art based forums where the activity is pretty high and the members really skillful , hoping to join later when i get free time.

And lol about the AL awards. Its called RB award. Only the people famous in RB can win/nommed in those awards. And the "Best GFX Artist" usually goes to a famous/RBer or the person who makes most sigs in the "Request A Sig" Scheme . Lol I won it five times i guess and maybe 3 times in a row with the same reason. I personally dont believe it in that award since a panel of GFX artists are require to judge them and not just people who browse the forum. But then again its a popularity award so no harm done.

Though I always enetered to see if Soma voted for me , since he did 4 times

Seriously who have no idea , how much I respect you and other artists in your time since that was the reason i got so good at this. Its somewhat a pity , how people dont remember you guys .
