A new group has started its journey in DeviantArt ... The group is called   Traditional-Masters and is a group for traditional artists who want to publicize their works and know the works of other traditional artists ..
At the moment we are very few because it has just opened the group, but without a doubt we will grow and we will form a great community ... It would be an honor to have your presence in the group ... If you are interested, please sign up and you will be welcome...

Just curious: Have you long been interested in Celtic/Welsh culture and music? I'm part Celt myself, and I love Welsh singing.

There is no 'emoticon' for curious, or I'd have it here.

Um... I've always loved Irish and Scottish folk music because it's so eminently singable. But my getup is High Middle Ages, Germany

Thanks for the quick reply. I did notice, and like, the costume. It looks fine, and thanks also for giving me it's origin. I'm a historian as well as a singer, and love to learn these little tidbits.
I love Celtic music for much the same reason, but basically I'm a Classicist and church musician. I've been a choral singer almost all of my life.

Historian? What period? I'm an Egyptologist (same thing, more digging in the sand...)

As a historian, I'm something of a generalist, but when I was setting up the five fields for the Doctorate I never got, they were The American Revolutionary era, The U.S. Civil War, Modern Germany through WWII, Late Plantageanet Britain, and Bitain in the Napoleonic Era. Aided by a capacious memory, I was and am able to handle lots of the detail necessary for the diverse nature of my fields. And about every third book I read is either Historical or Biographical. And I read a lot, probably four to five hours a day. I'm retired and have the time for it.

Lucky duck. I have a mild (!) addiction to books, so I try not to read too often - 'cause if I read one, I'll have to read another, and another, and productivity goes byebye.
Speaking of books and Napoleonic Era Britain, you're probably familiar with the Sharpe series?

Forcedlactationlover In reply to Cwylldren [2012-11-14 01:58:03 +0000 UTC]

Yes, I am. But I prefer the naval tales of Forester and O'Brien, and interestingly, two of Georgette Heyer's Stories, 'The Spanish Bride' and 'An Infamous Army'. And beyond that, I own David Howarth's 'Trafalgar: The Nelson Touch', and 'Waterloo: Day of Battle', as well as several reference books on the era.

For some reason, I was a tad disappointed by Hornblower - possibly because I had fallen in love with a lot of the supporting characters from the TV series, who of course didn't appear in the original stories. Need to read them again at some time I haven't just watched the series.
