thanks I should range finder cameras were often the choice of professional photographers in some situations as the early SLR was often quite noisy and could be distracting.

They should they got their from Leica.
if you start with a POS piece of glass then you can never get a good result, Yashica knew that and went the other way!

Did they really get their lens from Leica? I've read a lot of stuff about Yashicas but never come across anything about it. Is read something about some snobby photo critics that, back in the day, swore that some photos in an exhibition was taken with a leica lens when in fact it was with a electro 35 gt or something. POS?

Have you ever thought about joining our 'expert' team?

A have an old memory of that from back in the day, perhaps from a photography today article from most likely 1979 or 80.

I am just an old guy who remembers how to use the cameras he grew up using though they are now relics.

We like those in our group. I rely on them for info on the cameras I use, and I'm also slowly but surely turning in to one myself.

My hobby right now is to find old 70s rangefinders in fleemarkets, fixing them up, and resell them on Swedish Ebay. Last week I found an olympus 35 trip for 20 sek, did some minor repairs and cleaning and sold it for 450 sek(and I have another one waiting). Yesterday I finished working on a Konica c35, also from fleemarket. I bought it for 25 sek so I'll probably make a profit there to.

my mother has a old Minolta Range finder that she loaned my little sister for trip to Germany, sis dropped that camera breaking the lens, well she took it to a camera shop to see what could be done. they told her it would take 2 hours and to come back then. had she been in the US they'd told her to trash the camera. when she got back it had the new lens. it seems they never opened the back of the camera and the film was still in it naturally the frame behind the lens and shutter were lost but the rest of the roll were fine, she finished the roll of film and didn't think any more of it until she processed the film. as she and parents were looking at the pictures they discovered that the pictures were of two different qualities and it could be seen when looked at the negatives. the ones on the beginning of the roll were of inferior quality to those at the end with the new lens. I need to see if Mom still has this camera, I suspect they put a Schneider lens on it but I need to be sure of that. mind you the Minolta lens were of good to above average for the time producing good quality images but there are only two better lens than the Schneider lens Leica and Hasselblad, some would put the Nikon lens with the previous three but I have never personally been able to pick out any to justify that position other than brand loyalty.

perhaps they did install a clean lens, but it was a new one as when she breaks a lens she does a good job. I used the camera with the Minolta lens on it, it has been in the years since that I learned of the other lenses.

One interesting thing to do is to go on flickr and search for photos shot with Leicas. You notice two things when browsing those. First, the Leica photos aren't better exposed or composed then any other photos, which is interesting because people seem to think that a Leica makes you a better photographer. Second thing you notice is that they're not generally sharper then any other photos. So Leicas are like Rollexes. Just a ridiculous way of showing that you have money.

an expensive machine will rarely make you better at something. frequently I annoy my wife by taking great pictures with crap cameras. this mainly happens by learning the weakness of the camera and avoiding that condition or by using it as a part of the image or composition. only recently have the put good enough lens on digital cameras to come up to my standards, crap lens=crap camera. the other thing I miss about film was when you knew what you wanted to shoot you could choose your film to suit. for example Afga was known as the blue film and Kodak was balanced for the greens but did you know that an obscure Japanese film Sakura was balanced for pinks and red? this knowledge is as much a part of the composition as the set of the frame before click the shutter.

just frustrated I can so easily make the adjustments between cameras so easily, as in from a SLR to an rangefinder with out cutting heads off.

I see. If you look past all the fluff of contemporary ones, a camera is basically a camera. If you really understand how one work you can figure all the other ones out pretty easily.

precisely!
a good image is just that, sometimes a fault with a film or lens can be exploited to achieve a nice result. when I shot this I used a cannon rangefinder and broke a bunch of "rules" judge for your self if the result is worth sharing. [link]
