Hey, I've been looking around and I saw a post by you on Se7inSins talking about beta texture extraction using pokecancer's deswizzler.
Assuming we're using the same version, where did you get the image width and height data from? I have the offset and raw size data, but I can't convert to dds without the actual image data.
And as far as I can tell, the raw hex sizes are divisible by A8R8G8B8 32 bit chunks, but they don't resemble anything remotely square.
The only thing I can test this against is the AR bitmap in shared, but because my version of H3Core is pretty old, it can't read the meta data from shared and so I only know some of the offsets and raw sizes. Obviously, extracting maps I already have kind of defeats the purpose.
Just wondering what kind of headway you've made with this.

I got the height and width from h3edit. The tool is private but I am sure you can find an older version of it somewhere. And not all bitmaps are square. The AR bitmap is square though. If you dont have the height and width at first then try going from 32x32 and work your way up from there.

Yeah, I was trying out some obscure map in riverworld, and I think I figured out what I was doing wrong, which is that I was dividing it into 24 byte chunks instead of 32 bit chunks. Then I just take the resulting hex number, factor it, and feed those combinations into the deswizzler until it works. So far it works, only for some reason all my deswizzled textures come out with the blue and alpha channels switched. Which just means a little extra work in photoshop.
Anywho, nothing is private if you know what you're doing. Thanks for the tip.

Which bitmap have you extracted successfully? In case it changes my idea of what bitmaps halo 3 has that are 32 bit.

32-bit total. A8R8G8B8 to be specific. 8 bits to a byte, so four bytes a pixel, take your raw size, divide by four, then factor and test the possible combinations of factors for width and height. (For instance, the AR raw size is 0x100000 which is 1048576 decimal. 1048576 / 4 = 262144 = 512 x 512)
Of course, knowing the size before hand makes things easy as pie, but the only maps I know the size of are the maps that I already have, like the AR, the spartans, so on and so forth. Those maps extracted just fine, but again, I already have them.
This buisness with the factors works, but unless one of the factors happens to be a perfect square, it requires a fuck load of guess and check for any non-square image. And sometimes the deswizzler will not throw an exception during deswizzling, but instead the .dds will throw an EndOfFile exception whenever you try to open it.
Dunno why all this H3Beta stuff is still under the table. It's been out almost 2 years now, and most of the required tools are now publicly available, albeit in highly fragmented parts. If I weren't so completely lazy/occupied, I might just take a stab at writing an all-in-one extraction app myself...
