He is, but he's also a little butter. He likes standing up on everything to make himself taller. XD what's your rat like? I've never had a rat, but I know that they are incredibly clever.

He's insanely personable and brave and smart. I've watched him come out of his shell more and more since I brought him home; he used to run around and be rather difficult to catch (even though once you had him out he was nothing but sugar), but now I can reach into his cage and scoop him up with one hand and he just limply oozes on my palm and lets me do whatever I want. I've never had a rat who trusts me so much as he does (he's my seventh rat, I believe). I can hold him on his back and he's perfectly relaxed, perfectly limp, and just sits there and stares at me or licks over my thumb. He loooves kisses. He'd lick me all day if I let him. He also adores pets. Cheek rubs are probably his favorite. He closes his eyes and leans into them. He also seems to enjoy belly rubs when he's in the mood, and occasionally even rolls onto his back and closes his eyes to soak 'em up. I've never had a rat doing anything close to that before. 
The thing with rats--like most pets--is that the more you handle them and expose them to certain environments, the more they adjust to them accordingly. For example, rodents are fairly particular about where they use the bathroom. With every pet rodent I've had, they're prone to pooping/peeing on you when you first bring them home. But the more you take them out of the cage and handle them and socialize them, the more they realize that okay, my cage is where my designated poop corner is, and I always return to my cage at the end of play time, so I can hold it and I don't have to poop or pee on my owner. They don't like to use the bathroom where they sleep or play, because they're smart enough to know that doing so soils that area and it's unclean and uncomfortable.
Rats are generally kind of skittish when you first get them, but with patience and understanding, I believe you can show any individual animal that it's safe and in a loving, nurturing place where it can relax. 

Darwen's been my little sidekick for basically the entire time I've had him. He's learned how to be a perfect shoulder rat, and he sits on my shoulder and goes with me wherever I go. Seriously--I've taken him to the Renaissance Festival, to anime conventions... he honestly comes with me 99% of the time when I leave the house. He's come to love car rides, and he's gradually learned that no matter how noisy or strange or initially scary a place might be, he's safe with me and I'll always give him somewhere to hide and nothing bad will ever happen to him. And it's crazy to watch him learn that kind of thing, because once he figures that out, he's the bravest little monster in the world and he'd do anything with me. I love him to death. He's one of the most important things in my life. He knows whenever I'm having an anxiety attack or when I'm crying or depressed, and he takes care of me. He knows how to do something silly to make me smile, and he knows that when I'm crying it helps to have him snuggle up against my neck and fall asleep on my shoulder. If he's out of his cage and he knows I'm not doing great, he finds a place to lay down where he can keep a close eye on me. I don't know what I'd do without him

Thank you for telling me that, I really appreciate it. He sounds like he's a really good friend. I really like tumbler posts as well😊 when I get anxious, I've been looking up info about bunnies, but there's only so much more I can learn, so its good to have anouther animal to learn about!
