Hello!
I'm looking for "Writing contests" does it exist on DA?

I just found out about this...I can't believe it. Getting my first DLD was the most amazing thing, it pushed me to keep writing and I'm so grateful that it did. I understand the bruised pride and the feeling of something having "run its course" or failed entirely as an admin of a group, or the leader of a project-- the fact is that it's just the wrong perception, no matter how perfect something was you'll always think it should have grown higher, went further, accomplished more than it did. But to me and many other members, DLD is an imperative part of the deviantart literature community. But it seems like everyone else has given up already-- we took DLDs for granted, and even though they're gone now it still feels like you'll happen across the honor being bestowed via the copy-paste comment on a celebrated piece, or you'll see one in your feedback messages and jump for joy, but I guess they're gone now...So many of us are willing to bring it back, and we should be allowed in to start again. The group has extended beyond the admins, and especially the admins internal issues now-- this has to do with all of us.

It's really sad to see DLD going down this way - cause maybe it wasn't doing 100% of what it once was intended to do, but in my opinion it sure was doing a pretty damn awesome and important job. I still treasure the DLDs I got and basically just got warm with suggesting. I see there is a new group forming to keep up the good work, it could be part of the solution. But I just hope everybody involved can find a way to make peace with each other. Cause guys, you all have been putting a lot of work into creating something awesome, please don't become enemies over it.
Please try to take 3 giant steps back and look past this mess and see what you have accomplished together, cause I sure think that was an amazing lot of things. For that, I want to thank every single one of you.

Thank you for being such a powerful force in this community for so long. Having been on the admin side of this group for a short while, I know how much hard work and dedication were required to keep it running. In spite of what anyone says, you all have done a great service to all of us.
Thank you.

While I completely understand your reasons for closing the group β bruised pride is painful β bear in mind that any embarrassment is confined to a few specific users, and the vast majority of people affiliated with this group don't actually care or look down on you about that mistake. In fact, in trying to save face, you're actually bringing more negative attention to yourself than you would have been if you'd just swept the matter under the rug. And if it's specifically the hurt feelings of the former staff member that you're upset about, private attempts at reconciliation approached with humility can do wonders. "I'm sorry" is very effective; I say that as somebody who within the past year had to swallow a buttload of pride to finally say that to somebody.

I find the reasons for closing the group very childish and selfish. I would expect a more mature approach and less drama from people who so selflessly supported the lit community. Thought a person like that would be above such petty issues. I hope things settle down and you reconsider.

DorianHarper [2014-04-12 12:32:06 +0000 UTC]
It's seriously a shame that you're closing-- and for such silly reasons. If it's really all over a journal having something listed wrong, a simple edit was all that was required. Not this.
This group has meant so much to many in the Lit. Community, probably more than any other group that isn't an official CR group, and taking it away on the drop of the hat without consulting the other co-founders or trying to have someone else take over is just selfish. Literature struggles as it is to find its place in the deviantArt community. Desperately at times. All the love and support that it can get boosts the confidence and creativity of writers and gives them the ability to share their work with others-- and that's the purpose of dA, isn't?
While I may not be very active on the site right now due to life getting in the way, this was something I had to comment on. DLDs have been important to me since their start-- both in finding new lit. to read on the site, new writers, and once in a while, find my work featured and give me something exciting to wake up to. On top of that, serving as a Poetry Admin was the first real opportunity I had to be an active part of the lit. community... and I made so many new friends here through that. I'm certain other writers can say the same.
I'm honestly appalled by all this. Pulling the plug without consulting with the other co-founders or trying to have someone take over to keep the group alive is just selfish, as I said before. (And changing the password so that the other admins can't log-in as I overheard happening is, as well.) This group meas so much to the lit. community, and taking it away is just low. The drama needs to end. Suck it up or either pass the group to another person. DLD is worth too much to the community to disappear.

Sorry to hear you're considering closing down.
I second a lot of what AspiredWriter said, in that this group has done a tremendous amount for the community, and without it my time here - my entire life - would likely have run a very different course, and perhaps not such a great one. I'd be surprised if there aren't many others who can say the same thing.Β Thanks so, so muchΒ to everyone who's worked for DLD or otherwise contributed to its existence and succes. Β
If you do close, I hope you don't deactivate the accountΒ Β it's so full of great memories for many of us.
I hope you guys can work it out together and find a solution to keep it in existence.

Even if we can't regain control of THIS, we will simply start another and just keep going. DLD means too much to too many, and I will damned if what I put so much of my soul in to is simply destroyed by someone throwing a temper tantrum of epic proportions.

I mean an individual "closing" a group because obviously they never went into the group for the right reasons to begin with.
As I said in Nics journal, good time to move on and improve away from the drama.

This here is a copy of a note as feedback for the "closing" journal entry. You disabled all comments to the "closing" journal entry so I could not do this in its proper place. I am putting it here as well because I would love for as many deviants as possible to read these words.
I'm shocked and upset by reading this news. DLD has been my first group here on dA (before there were really even groups technically) and is majorly responsible for me still being here today and consequentially any and all improvements I have made as an artist and friends I have made and amazing people and artists I have met here during my over four years on the site. It has been a comfort to have it out there pushing me on. It is a day of mourning to hear of the shutting of your doors.
I, (and I am sure many others) appreciate the hard and dedicated work you have put in and for being for us deviants all these years.
I didn't quite understand the reason for this move. Is a correction of an accidental detail really the reason for this? I am confused and saddened.
I plead with you to reconsider and remain for all of us who adore you and have come to count on you. If you indeed go you will be sourly missed. I think you know this and it is for this reason you disabled the comments for you fear your mind changed by a deluge of fan-comments.
A big hug and dA love to you all for the work you put in. you are truly amazing people.

I'm trying to take it back, I will NOT allow her to take this away from our Literature community, she, a person who barely even exists here, has no effin right to do this, none at all, especially since she's totally wrong about what's "causing" all this. I AM the Co-Founder.

No, no, you don't understand, DLD began before we had groups like we do now. Will and I both began to have serious health problems, so we originally turned the "owning" of the dA page over to Lisa, because SOMEONE has to have the password and be able to maintain the page, see? And the Creator of DLD is Will, vertigo-art Turns out, we made a really, really bad choice back then.

I'm sure from a business standpoint, it all makes sense. Easier to find groups, easier to join, more exposure for new deviants, new deviants more likely to remain on the site... etc, or something.

TheseKrimzonFlames In reply to vespera [2014-04-12 07:02:16 +0000 UTC]

Yea. This is why I've stopped buying prints through dA or merchandise. I'll pay for the subscription because ew ads & I've heard that there are rumors of viruses running around for non-paying members, but I've stopped supporting them when I'm off-site.

TheseKrimzonFlames In reply to vespera [2014-04-12 07:26:23 +0000 UTC]
I do it for the ads, even with security and Adblocker, virus's still get through, and no matter how much they profess to have done to stop virus-laden ads, they've actually done nothing at all. And they have 5-8 people working a help desk serving MILLIONS of accounts, while there are something like ONE HUNDRED working in MARKETING....well, greed, greed, and more greed, US they only see as money, and so I can view the site and everything about it how I choose to, as in 120 devs per page when I'm visiting galleries, my journal, for which the new CSS will shortly be complete, but I don't and never have a membership for dA. Their greed sickens my soul.

DLD shutting down? NOT WITHOUT A FIGHT
Many of you in the lit community may have seen this or heard the news already, that DailyLitDeviations has decided to close its doors. I am here to tell you that this is NOT an agreed-upon decision amongst the current admins or current owners of DLD. This is a rogue decision made by a former admin due to an internal affair and it would be a shame to end an account that plays such a pivotal role in the literature community. So this journal, spread the word and most importantly, contact violations@deviantart.com
Wait, what?
This is a hijacked account of which the admin is no longer a part of. They are not the rightful owner, so I urge you to send an email on DLD's behalf
violations@deviantart.com
and copy-paste the following:

Also, I find it disturbing that someone whose sole contribution, to what I helped create, for so long was "owning" this account all of a sudden just takes it upon themselves to utterly destroy what I helped create. Even if my recollections are totally wrong, ALL YOU HAD TO DO WAS SIMPLY EDIT THE ARTICLE. THAT'S IT. Instead you completely went off the deep end, and now, you've plunged into the abyss. Incidentally, my recollections are NOT wrong.
How about this kersee9 , since you're soooo offended, how about you just give the group back to me, so you don't need to EVER worry about it again? DLD matters so much to so many, and you have NO RIGHT AT ALL TO JUST TAKE IT AWAY FROM THEM. Period. You, in this moment, just became one of the biggest failures the Literature community has EVER had.
