Writing doesn't have to be absolutely flawless to be inspirational. A certain word, a use of a phrase, a new perspective, whatever makes a click in my head. Inspiration isn't just the work I like and want to write about, it's anything that really gets the gears to turn. Your writing did.

A lot of things gave me the inspiration for that story. It's a sum of a lot of ideas and stories I've read; yours included. It's a bit tricky putting everything together, but I think it's working out ok.

I was thinking about all of the games and how the girls can take an absurd amount of fire (Nearly 10 seconds of nonstop rapid-fire ofudas) and how some of the lesser creatures like the big fairies can sustain a lot of damage too. I just thought it would make sense for the residents, being magic and all, to have developed some kind of passive resistance to damage to explain it.

Huh. I never really thought about that. But now that you brought it up I can see how that would make sense. You have a good eye for spotting unused plot devices. Though I have a question: are you familiar with all of the Touhou canon? Including manga and fanbooks?

I will not lie... no.
I have played most of the games (and a lot of fan games), but have never beaten any of them (including fan games). I have never read any manga, but I have read most of the fan books, including Symposium and Perfect Memento and Grimoire of Marisa. I try to make up for gaps in my logic by researching topics before-hand. Even so, I still worry sometimes. I want to play with and entertain the various possible interpretations of cannon, not confuse the audience with contradicting viewpoints. I think this is my greatest challenge in writing Ancient Arcane Curse.
Regardless, I take great lengths of time researching any given topic before using it. I think if I take the time I can make my stories work well enough without knowledge of all of the canonical events.
